What "all original" means (with a GP Question)

*In a positive way it means that your vehicle has not been molested by the previous owner and/or many repair shops. Such as broken bolts, wiring issues, crossthreaded bolts, stripped threads, and others.
*In a negative way that means that you just bought a vehicle with all original parts that are nearing the end of the lifespan. Such as glowplugs, clutches and so on.

Now to the point, I have an "all original" truck, and all the glowplugs are out. I ohmed them and got infinity on all. Then I tried the test light way and it didnt light.
Is it more possible for all eight glowplugs to go out (for how long I dont know) or for the glowplugs pins on the UVC harness to go out?

What is the torque value for the injector holddowns? rocker arms?
I got 14ftlbs for the GPs and 8ftlbs for the VC bolts, correct?

jumper cables man. if you got em out grab below the threads with the ground and put the positive on the top where the wire plugs onto. dont burn yourself. if there still good you will know real quick they get glowing red in about 1 second.

what all did you rip apart on your truck? the gp's come out without removing the rockers. sorry books are at home.

If you are checking through the VC harness the ohms should be around 8-10. If you are checking right on the GP You should get 5 ohms or less. How did you hook up the test light, BTW: this is only a quick check, Ohm's are the best way to determine the health of a GP.

Gp's are right 14 ft lbs
Rocker Arm Post Attaching Bolts 27 ftlbs
Fuel Injector Hold-Down Clamp Mounting Bolt 20 in lbs
Fuel Injector Hold-Down Clamp Shoulder Bolt 20 in lbs
Valve Cover Bolt 97 in lbs

The truck is still in one piece.
I checked through the VC harness. Test light was from batt positive to glow plug pin on VC harness.

Yep, that's the way with a test light. You may have an issue under the VC. I doubt all the GP's are bad.

but all four VC harness's, only on the glowplug terminals? wouldnt it be more realistic that all eight glow plugs went out sometime in the last 13yrs/170k miles? It was a southern truck so the previous owner possible couldnt tell the difference in starting cause it wasnt cold enough. I'm gonna remove the passenger side VC and ohm out the GPs there.

How easy does the passenger side VC comeoff?

Yep, I missed that point about original GP's. The passenger side is harder to get off but pull the shiney stuff off the AC box and remove anything that's in your way. You'll see.

just to make shure i understand. this is what pins in the UVC harness connector are. and to test the Glow plugs if you connet an ohm meter between a ground (neg battery post) and the glow plug pins you should get "0.00" on a digital and a full sweep to the right on an analog meter if they are good. the same as if you touch the two leads of the meter together.

Yep those are the pins, that's what you wouold get on an analog meter. A digital meter will show a couple ohms, 10 ohms is a weak GP, that's going though the harness. Ohms are lower right on the GP like I said b4.

Cuda_Jim: removing the passenger VC was easy, didnt even remove the insulation or anything else. The only hard part was the 2 rear bolts. I disconnected the glow plug wire from the GP and did a ohm and test light test straight on the GP, but nothing happened, so I got 8 OEM motorcraft GPs coming from eBay cause no parts strore around here sells the motorcraft/beru brand, just bosch, autolite, champion, ac delco.

Glad to hear you got the VC's off witout too much aggrevation. I just got an extra set of GP's off ebay too, $35 bucks + S&H ....not bad. I bought a set form AutoZone around 2001 with a life time warranty, they won't honor it anymore...after about 6 sets. He he!

Until you sell the vehicle, or 3 months, which ever occurs first...

can you say lawsuit.... threaten with that, i still get starters replaced on the race car, long tube headers eat mopar starters, even with heat shields. if they advertise lifetime and there is no fine print stating otherwise on the origonal receipt then they MUST honor it. been there done that.

as for all 8 gp's i've seen that many times before, if a relay sticks on it will burn them out real quick, if all 8 are bad throw a relay on it too, it only has to stick once to burn them out again
