considering buying a diesel

hi i am considering buying a 1994-96 f250 4x4 w/ diesel. I have never owned a ford diesel and before i seriously start looking at these i have a few questions for y'all.

1. i am thinking i can get a reg. cab w/ about 175000 mi for around $5000, this sound about right? (northern truck/ w some rust as i now live near cleveland)
2. are there any major problems with these diesels, or things that break on all of them that are expensive?
3. how much hp/tq does a 94-95 psd have?
4. are there any "bad" transmissions to get.
5. what mpg's should i expect w/ a 3.55 rear end. i aint looking for anything amazing, but would hope it gets at least 15 or so in the city.
6. how long will this motor last if taken care of properly.
7. how does it "feel" powerwise driving it? is it much better than a '94 f150 w/302?
8. anything else you can think of relating to this motor that i might want to know before buying?

thank you for your response. i apperaciate it

btw. i am not planning on doing any towing, i just want a diesel, so i am not very concerned w/ tow ratings.

1. sounds ok, i would recomend a bigger cab, its nice to throw stuff behind the seat, and the supercabs have more leg romm with seat adjustability
2. anything that breaks will be costly on a diesel but they normally dont break, worst case is cam sensors that are now 15 bucks a pop and a 5 minute job to replace
3. 94-96 -215\425 97- 225\450
4. the only bad trans is one with burnt fluid, sticks are almost indestructable clutches arent, autos are great if maintained, bigger trans cooler and a shift kit.
5. 17-20 mpg unloaded in mine with 4.10's, avg 14 towing 6-7k at 75-80mph
6, i'm at 230k, guys on here are breaking 400k
7. bone stock the 7.3 isnt too impressive, i'd almost say your 302 is faster but it wont tow as good, a few cheap modifications make these motors scream
8. oil changes are crucial to engine life. they run strong and run forever. prepare to get sucked into the powerstroke mod syndrome if you buy one,

block heater is essential if you don't park in heated garage. below 40F, mine doesn't want to start easily without the heater.

the heater helps a lot, but if you let the glow plugs stay on for a while it helps alot too

Mine has started at around 20 degrees without being pluged in . With lots of white smoke though. If you plug it in, it should start fine everytime.
