DaerbornDerek.. Will the flareside still be an option? And what do you mean 2 have been run through the system? How can one make a newly designed truck with an assembly line that hasn't been "refitted?" And how does one make a new truck when the parts are not being mass produced yet? Sorry about all the questions but we are all fascinated with these trucks and their designs. And I'm sure the dire straights Ford is in right now the new 09' F-150 has to be a big hit. GM stated they spent over $5B with their new 900 line of trucks/SUV's and so far things are not working out as they hoped for.

The pic of the future F-150 is out-of-this-world. Looks like a high tech luzury power pickup truck.

The flair side will still be an option.
It was a dry run to see where we might run into problems when we start running the 09 next year. We (skill trades) had a couple of skillits (what the truck rides on in the plant) refitted to fit the 09. Some of the jobs we had tooling for, some did not (we had to do those things by hand) and some tooling just would not work at all on the truck. So now trades and engineers know what needs to be tweeked and where.
The parts are prototype parts so they cost a lot more and are in short supply.....you break, you buy

I hope not or I will be paying Ford back for as long as I work there.
They have several mufflers and tailpipes laying around for tuning the exhaust note. I was told each 1 is $1000.00.

When I was at NMPDC, I saw an invoice for a brake line that goes from the mid to the back of the frame (2265) and it was $250.00. I'm not sure but I think someone told me the fuel relay prototypes were $300-400 and that the finished prototype vehicle is in the low six figure area...but thats just what I have heard ( no proof to back that one up).

I hate the fact that the new truck seems to have sides on it so high that you can't reach over and pick something out of the bed...Seems that ford is raising the bar so to speak with each new incarnation of the F-150...The new one will be higher still. pretty soon the tail gate will be six feet high. Why do you need twenty two inch wheels on a pickup truck? It looks Like A gangsta Rapper's beer wagon. I'm sorry....don't like what i'm seeing...

anyone have any comments on that?

ohboy44 and Derek:

Can you comment on the below questions? If not, I understand, but if so, great!

1) Have you driven the 4.4L diesel? If so, what are your thoughts?
2) Have you driven the Boss? Which displacements will be available? What are your thoughts on this engine compared to the 5.4? Does it have cylinder deactivation?
3) How is the 6 speed tranny compared to the current 4 speed?
4) Are we getting a trailer brake controller with the '09's.
5) Are we ever going to to get a dead pedal??!?!!! That's my only dislike about my '05.

Thanks for the info guys! We really appreciate the way you string us along with little tid bits of information!

I would like to know (being a Ford shareholder) how much money Ford is actually spending on the research/design/production set up of the 09' F-150. GM stated they allocated $5Billion to their new 900 line of trucks/SUV's. Seems outrageous in dollar terms but I guess anything is possible today.

Speculation : Could it be that Ford has put a lot of padding under the camo as to make it harder to guess to what the final shape will be?

They are prototype parts, that's why they are so expensive. Once the designs are finalized and they are mass-produced, they will cost essentially the same as they do today. Prototyping parts is very expensive!!
