non retracting seatbelt

non retracting seatbelt
I do not know if I'm the only one with this problem but I believe I have solved my non retracting seatbelt problem. It happens when I use my seatbelt( its the law) and when I exit the vehicle the seatbelt fails to retract and gets caught between the door and the doorframe usually hanging out the bottom 6-8 inches. I am a decent sized fellow 6-2 290lbs and I absolutely hate to fiddle with these belts every time I exit my vehicle to make sure the above doesn't happen, I think I fixed it. I found that if you spray silicone lubricant liberally on both sides of the seatbelt and along it's entire length as well as the shoulder loop and bottom retractor it will fully retract with little to no problems. The silicone spray I use is from Discount Auto parts from a company named Johnsens in an orange can, it definitely works. I've also used it to lubricate my table saw's table and my compound miter saw table(makes sliding lumber feel like its on bearings or powder at least). Whatever spray lubricant you use just make sure it dries with little to no residue, kind of like brake cleaner, it will have somesort of residue of course but it will be clear and non staining. I have used this product for a couple of months and only applied it once to my seatbelts with great results. I hope this helps in any way and sorry for the long post. Todd

I don't know what year/model you have, but there's a TSB for some vehicles-

I'd avoid spaying anything on the belt. Some synthetics don't react very well with petroleum based products. We'd toss any rappeling line that came in contact with gas, oil, bug spray etc. When it's your a** on the line, you don't want to gamble on a weakened piece of rope/belting.
