I asked a guy at work today. He has a 97 F350 with 7.3. He didn't know of anybody as he has never had need of a mechanic. I'm seriously looking at a 97 F250 with 7.3. I would love to know a good shop as well. I know of a few other diesel owners at work and I'll keep asking around.
ya might try Lovett's truck repair in Drummonds (North of Millington Close to wolfie ) not sure if he works on the 1 ton trucks (except his Dodge 1ton Cummins though)
He is a jam up mechanic but he is usally got a shop full of big trucks .
not sure of his phone number but he is listed in the Millington phone book under Lovett's truck repair .
hope this helps

Go by Zellners at White Station and Summer. They are a front end shop and did a great job on my 77 for me and they are very straight shooters. If you ask them face to face they will tell you who to go see and who to stay away from. They are real mechanics and know what they are talking about.
I used a guy at Landers Ford when I had my PSD. His work seemed good to me.He did work on the side after work & on the weekends. I'll try to track him down for you & pm you his phone number.
I have bad news. The mechanic I used has moved to Nashville. He took a job at some company there. Sorry. He was the only guy I knew of in this area.
I met a guy at a campground in Crossville a few years ago that gave me about the same story. He worked at the then new Oakley-Keesee Ford that moved to hwy 64. He didn't have any trouble when Dobbs 1st bought it, but had many problems when Autonation bought Dobbs. He was a master mechanic making top dollar as he was trained to work on gas, diesel, and transmissions. Autonation told him he was paid too much - and that it was their way or the highway. He chose the highway and now was working at a Knoxville dealership. He had a hugh F350 Supercrew and even hugher 5th wheel. I think he made a good choice. Plus he was out of the Memphis political situation (his words) and could be off work on Friday and on a campsite in the GSMNP before 6:00 PM. I was way jealous!!
I wonder if there are any good mechanics left in Memphis?
That sounds like what Landers in Collierville did to the mechanics. I know 2 that quit over hours & money. They got tired of working Saturdays & late hours.
Surely there are some shops somewhere in town. The dealerships can't have this sowed up. And there are a lot of Powerstrokes out there, much less the "other" 2 makers.
I have happened across a shop on Old Whitten Road just off of the newer Whitten Road and Hwy 70. I don't know how long it has been there or even how to find out if they are good or not? To be honest I don't know if they do any work there or if it is just a performance parts outlet.
The guy I bought my PSD from has been using Dobbs Ford in Memphis. He said they have been real good for him. I plan to try them & see how they work out.
