79 F150 stereo install

The previous owner of my 79 F150 cut the lead wire to the stereo and I am currently in the process of installing a new stereo and I am having problem locating the lead. I have looked through the repair manual I have and have tried an internet search with no luck. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the stereo or can provide some info as to where I can located the lead?

I hooked my stereo up by running new wireing. I took a power wire from a spot in the fuse box that was hot when the key is on. And added an inline fuse.

stero

I just did the same thing and i had to strip out old CB/ stero wiering, i got rid of it all. go down to wally world get a new wireing harness and a 2 fuse links and run the constant hot from the constant on your ignition switch and the acc hot from the acc on your ignition switch. the speakers are a little tricky to find out but if you play with then you will get it.

P.S. try to solder the connections to your ignition switch and tape then good.

When you say stereo ... do you mean FORD AM/FM radio stereo

or

Aftermarket AM/FM Cassette stereo ?

Is this for constant memory or no key power

or is this for KEYED power ?

There is a special PROFFESIONAL installation spot for KEYED power.(see yellow 3-way Y connector) in my photo.

There is a keyed power source for the radio in the hole where the radio sits. It is a small brown plug with one lead on it providing 12V. If it is gone, you can also use the supply from the cigarette lighter if you don't need the lighter, or like what was mentioned above, run a new lead from the fuse panel for constant power (mem and clock) and one from the panel for keyed power. A test light should help you there.
just remember that ifyou run an amp, a seperate wire should be run from the battery of sufficient gauge, and the key on power from the fuse panel again.

Haha sorry, it really is more simple than it sounds... Once you do one, they are all pretty much the same.

Oh, I see what you are saying... Yeah, nowadays everyone sells the plug-in harness kits with all the wires labeled... Very nice since all the speaker wires can be used for the new system. But for these old trucks, most of the time all they got was a single (mono), 10 ohm speaker in the center of the dash! No harness needed because you are pretty much starting from scratch.

The original radio power connector (black wire) was joined with the Radio dial light (blue/red striped) wire in one harness.

That is the keyed power circuit as well.
