Question Backup Camera

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there's a backup camera system that connects to the Nav/Radio/CD system on the 08 ? New Toyota has one that I saw on a friends truck and it works really well. Camera is in the tailgate bezel. I want a camera that mounts on the license plate frame if possible.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ron

Ford's camera mounts in the tailgate near the handle; therefore if the tailgate is off- no camera. The monitor is in the rearview mirror. The option number is 76V and the list price is $470. Best Buy and other similar stores sell a camera and monitor for about $150 (saw it in the store yesterday, but can't find it on their website). The camera can be mounted just above the license plate, or they had one built into a license plate frame.

Have the Wireless type and its not worth spit. It losses signal all the time, but mostly when i need it. If you ever get one, get a hard wired camera.

All,

Thanks for the info so far. I was wondering how the wireless would work. Haven't seen a wireless with anything bigger than 2.5" screen which is really small. I'd rather get something that integrates with my nav screen if I can find it.

Who is going to be the first to retrofit the new backup camera onto a '08 that didn't originally come with one? My truck will be a job 2 (being built this week) but I placed the order before the job 2 options came out. So I will only have the back up sensors and no camera .

Ohh and I gotta say I'm glad ford put the backup camera screen into the rearview mirror. I don't like when they build everything intrigrated into the stereo. I want to be able to replace the stereo without breaking any built in systems etc.

Like the others said, Ford added the rearview camera screen to the rearview mirror. I am guessing that is because the radio will not accept a video input from an outside source. If you want navigation and rearview camera in the dash, you are going to have to go aftermarket.

Beerstalker - Thanks for the info. Gonna check on an aftermarket kit that does a display with the rear view mirror or one that mounts on the back of the sunvisor.

Hi - I'm running an aftermarket (Alpine 205 DVD touchscreen) setup on mine, and have front & rear cameras. They are NOT wireless, and have an incredible picture. Here you can see what they look like - they are mounted at the top of the license plate(s)

I'll get you some details, but the install was simple.. I also have a toggle set up for front & rear cameras so that I can view each while driving..

No the bar is fine. the rest of the truck is crooked .

JB666Rock: Are you affrade of somebody takeing the camera? It looks pretty easy to break off. That is what I like about the OEM ford setup.

Could you take a picture of the DVD screen showing one of the camera feeds?

Yep, I know.. I JUST put it on 3 minutes before that picture and took the shots before I tightened everything down.. It's good now, but slightly off in the picture -- Good eye!!!

As for the camera, they are through bolted, and have a special nut on the other side that requires a funky tool/socket to remove.. So no, if someone has that much time and can dodge bullets, they are free to take them.
