F-350 Cheaper Than F-250????
I was playing around on CarsDirect.Com tonight and found that I can get a F-350 cheaper than a F-250 through them. I speced them exactly the same and with the 6.4L, automatic and the highest GVWR rating. Both trucks were single rear wheel, extended cabs with the 158" wheelbase. What gives on this??

I think that you'll find that the reason for a less-expensive F-350 is that a lot of people are more inclined to pick up a 250 simply because they want the diesel but don't want one "rated" for 1 ton capacity. They figure that they need a truck, but not "that much" truck.
Sad part about it is that the differences between a 250 and 350 (with similar suspension packages) are negligible. Taller rear lift blocks and badging on the fenders are about as deep as the differences go. At least that's the way it was 99-04.
If you want a truck that sits more level when unloaded, get a 250. You'll notice that the rear of the 350s sits higher while unloaded. They both squat the same amount when loaded with the same amount of weight, but the 350 will sit higher in the rear....only because it started out higher in the back to begin with. This gives the impression that it doesn't squat as much when loaded.

It's a wonderful thing.

Ironically I have had a slight bit of buyer's remorse about my 2008 F-250 SD, wishing instead that for the very small price delta I had gone with the F-350. That said it is kind of just an ego thing - bigger is better, you know? I guess for my needs where I'll never tow over 10,000 lbs I really have the engine I need in the 6.4L and the 250 vs 350 is not all that important.
