Want to paint my truck gray...
I've decided to paint my truck gray. I remember an uncle who painted his 49 gray with a brush back in the mid-60s and I liked the color a lot. It was a light clear gray that had no metallic or silver in it...possibly even a battleship gray. Anybody have a clue as to where I could find such a color? Anyone else out there painting or have painted their truck gray? I'd rather find a stock color than have something mixed. Any suggestions?

George (Earl) has a color chart on his page. There are several shades of Gray, there are also a few other colors that look gray to these Ol Eyes.

Grey
Navy, they just finished painting the Intrepid aircraft carrier in New York. They may sell excess paint cheep. All kidding aside, that is the color for my 50 F-1, so I'll be reading the suggestions. I had thought about a blue/grey with royal blue fenders. There should be a good selection of cars and truck colors of grey to choose from. Lincoln used a grey, cadallic also. Have a great day, chuck

That Dover Gray for 1950 pickups on Earl's site looks good. Does anyone have a car or truck painted that color?
Fat56,
Do you have any idea as to what year older Ford the Dove gray came on?

i'm pretty sure my 52 was originally painted "non metallic light grey", thats my name for it. the firewall is the only area with some of that paint still on and in good shape, i can take a picture for you if you'd like.
i'm also thinking about going with that color.........i've just got acouple years to change my mind back and forth before i'm actually ready for paint.

I've used rustoleums Smoke Grey, it looks pretty much just like that dover grey and is non metallic. Of course it is oil based but lays down real good on body panels.
I am a fan of dark greys with a touch of purple mixed in but I think that light grey with some red accents (Emblem inserts painted red, maybe a pin stripe etc etc) would look GREAT.

I'll check in with Dove Gray as well. It's a very "olde" color and was quite popular in the 50s & 60s in England as well as America. Many of the old MGs the larger cars) and Jaguar touring cars were painted Dove Gray and it would make for a very classy truck. Some period black (or dark gray) and red pinstriping (not Von Dutch in your face but something more restrained) would make it "Pop"....in a very classic yet hot roddy way of course!

I thought about this color, it has a 'old time' look. It is non-metalic and has a low shine, not at all glossy. With a tad bit of orange peel it should hide many imperfections. Red wheels would really make it 'pop'. JM $0.02. Rod....

I want to do my Panel tu-tone the Dove Gray for the top/sides and Black for the Fenders, Running Boards, Grill.
Same colors for the interior but reversed using the beltline as the divider.
Chevy used a Tan/Chocolate in the early 50's on their Trucks that was real nice.
If I used that I'd be out there lickin the fenders.
