HELP, Someone who knows their stuff about powerstrokes!!!!

i own a 94.5 f250-with powerstroke & 5spd trans. the truck only has 72K. I have a 4" lift 35" tires and have added everything i can think of from banks to this truck. and it still SUCKS. I installed a banks power pack system which includes monster intercooler, quick spool turbo housing, 3"down pipe, 4" cat back, K&N intake, ottominder chip, egt and boost guages. I towed my 28' 5th wheel this weekend and it didnt hardley make a difference at all. I was only at 3-4 pounds boost in 4th gear pinned trying to get up a hill that big rigs were flyin up. i could never get over 5 pounds boost the whole weekend while pulling. my egts were at 1000 - 1100. When im not pulling i can sometimes manage to get my boost up to 10-12 pounds. What is the deal? obviously i have spent my money in the wrong spots because the $2500 banks purchase was useless. Please, any suggestions would be great.

sorry to tell you this, but your right. banks isn't very good at all. do you have a cold air intake? if not then put on a 6637 filter and check for boost leaks. you should have more than 5 lbs of boost easily stock. check all the intercooler boots and intake boots for leaks. throw away the banks chip and get a dp-tuner. empty out the cat as well.

I would get rid of that K&N air filter.

They let too much dirt though that will dust your turbo.

They do not seal very well to the cover. This lets dirt into your turbo.

Everything is good but you do need to loose the banks chip for a tony wildman or a Dp tuner they will be the best you can get. Either get rid of the Cat converter or gut it out. What is you gear ratio? Im not sure about the quick spool housing, but I have a 1.00A/R housing from Beans and it is great the banks housing may limit your boost too but im not completely sure about it. I can get close to 25 psi boost not even towing, If i had to guess the banks ottomind is limiting your fueling therefor the low boost, you should be able to bring it up to 2200- 2800 rpm and be seeing at least 10-15 psi boost.

First off even with all the banks stuff one ther you should have more boost than what your seeing. you need to pull the intake off the turbo and make sure the turbo wheel has smooth straight edges and sharp corners. it should look like this

it should not look sand blasted, bent or pieces missing. Even if it looks good you need to ditch the K+N its bad news waiting to happen if it hasn't already. Next you need to check and tighten all the rubber boosts on the intercooler and intake. Then you need to inspect the back of the turbo where the pipes come up from the manifolds. if there is any soot there you have leaky up-pipes donut gaskets. and leaks in the exhaust before turbo or intake leaks will result in low boost.

check all those things then check back and post what you found or didn't find.

Also as stated banks chips aren't that great but it is not your problem for the low boost you have. at the very least you should be able to hit 15 psi and more like 20. the Banks housing is a 1.0 exhuast housing for the turbo.

Also judging from your user name your into paintball. once we get your truck running I need some help with my paintballing skills. I use too many paintballs. 1500 in my first day out! its was only a few hours play!

really aim??? My head is too big to aim and stay in a safe place. I got hit right on top of the head twice and they didn't break. I nearly cried like a baby! No really I was on the ground holding the top of my head in real pain! I am wearing a helmet next time!

ahahhaha. Tim. We'll have to go for sure sometime, maybe whole chapter.

I've noticed on any of the truck shows, they always put Banks stuff on chebby's or dotches. Never the powerstrokes.
That should be a good hint banks and powerstrokes don't mix.
Banks makes great stuff, but not for fords.

never heard the K&N stuff, thanks for the heads up guys!
