Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow Muffler...Perfect!

I just installed a SISO FM 50 Series on my 1999 F150 5.4. It sounds great! No drone at all inside the cab and excellent tone outside. It's not too loud, just perfect!

I just wonder how that would do on my truck. Loudness is very subjective. It's not like we can easily put a decible rating on it. I know a Flowmaster 40 is way louder than I want, but maybe the 50 would do. I really don't want it too loud, but like to be able to hear it as I drive and have a nice sound. I don't want a hot rod sound (so maybe Flowmaster is not the way to go?) as my truck is by no means fast, but I want a truck sound.

You're correct. Loud is very subjective. I had the muffler shop slip on a few different mufflers so I could hear how the sounded before making my decision. If the Flowmaster is still too loud for you the 50 Series SUV muffler is even quieter. Good luck!

tallpaul try spintech they give aggressive awesome sound under acceleration and do not give you the loud drone at highwayspeeds and sound great overall, look at the sportsman split case, good stuff! and not expensive, gives a different sound than the flowmasters, better imo

What would really be nice is a muffler where I can adjust the innards to get just the right loudness. Do they make such a muffler at reasonable prices, like around $100?

Oh if only we could control the volume from the cab by turning a lever. Need to be quiet in neighborhood until hit main road.

An Flow 50 SUV is pretty quiet. I believe they also have a Flowmaster 70 or something like that. As for the drone. It's really not that bad in a pickup. IMHO... Now a car or an SUV you will hear a 50 drone.

They have four 50 mufflers: HD, Delta, SUV, and Big Block. The SUV is a larger version of the Delta, but also quieter. Big Block is about the same volume as the SUV.

Looking at their chart the Delta is about 1/3 the way up from their quietest to their loudes muffler. The HD is about 2/3 the way, probably too loud for me. I won't go SUV as it is among the quietest they make and I do want to hear the truck.

Next question: Is a Flowmaster going to make my truck sound like a hot rod? I don't want that because it is not a hot rod. I just want a power sound, but truck like.

No, the Flowmasters great a deep rumble that sounds like a mans truck. I have a FullBlown 50 series on my van, and I don't think it is too loud. I like the tone, and it is quiet enough that I don't have to turn up the radio beyond normal. Road noise is greater louder than the exhaust inside the cab. But it does depend on the acustics of your vehicle. On a truck I don't think you'd have any problems.

What is the FullBlown? Is that the HD 50?

Just talked to a Flowmaster tech and came up with that either the 50 Delta or 50 SUV would be good choices. I lean towards the Delta. Am looking for to hear it ever so mildly over the radio on the highway and to be audible, but quiet while tooling around the neighborhood. I think Delta is the one. Will go by Detroit Speed Shops and see if they have someone to listen to my existing muffler to ballpark how the FM would compare in loudness.

Tall Paul. I just looked at your sig. With having a six banger use the delta 50. My buddy put one on his truck. Sounds pretty good. Nice deep tone. You don't want loud on a six. It will sound like one of them lil cars with the beer can mufflers. If that is the truck you are speaking of.

Thanks Dan. Yes it's the big 6-banger. Right, I don't want to make it sound like c r a p. So the Delta 50 is not that loud? Good. My current setup is shown and described in my gallery fyi. It is fine, but the flowmaster rumble would be nice, just not a rice wagon effect.

Delta 50 it is.
