390 problem i'm haveing
Hey. What's up yall? I have many questions i have. Well, first off, i took off my heads, manifold and so on just to replace the gaskets. I put it on and there was a steady steam like white smoke comeing out of the passenger side exhaust. I found out that peticular head had a crack in it. So i went to a salvage yard and picked up two heads and had them cleaned up and valve job. So, than i put new gaskets on and know it is like it's almost leaking. I was wondering about the headers if you only put one gasket or both the exhaust manifold gasket and the header gasket. The leak is comeing from down where it bends to the pipes of the exhaust i think. It won't do it at first. It's like it has to warm up first than it will do it. Right now i have water in as the coolant but i don't think that would make it over heat to make the engine heat up. Before thou, i could remember how the gaskets came off and since this is my first top end work of an engine, i'm not to experience but when i just went to re gasket, i put both gaskets on when hooked up the headers and nothing happen. I some one would help me out, i would appreciate it.

I understand this.

You should only be using header gaskets.

I really don't understand what you are saying here but I think you may have the head gaskets on the wrong way. You may also have an air pocket in the cooling system. Run the engine with the radiator completely full and the cap off for 15 minutes or so to remove the air.

Hey. I didn't mean to confuse any of you guys. If i did, my bad. The water and gasket part was just giveing you some ideas what i have done for you would get maybe a better clue on what's wrong.
I asked one of my good buddy's today and he said it could be that something got into the headers. I told him when i did take the cylinder heads of, coolant did come down and could of got inside. But thanks for the tips you gave me thou. I will take it into consideration. I appreciate it.
