Electric fuel pump.

I put a Holley Red pump on my truck and wow what a difference. Any of you all with a turbo I have to tell you this is a must have. I think this can fix alot of problems on these old IDI,s with turbos on them at least it did on mine. I just wanted to let anyone without one know they need to get one. I do realize alot of you already have this, I am just a late arrival!

Great to hear. How did it improve your truck? I just put one on as well but didn't quite have the dramatic results that you did.

The top end is off the hook and it pulls real hard all the way to the top. I have real strong response out of the engine and it just start like a brand new truck. The sound of the engine is so sweet, I just cant say enough good about it. It was a pain to install but well worth the effort!

With all my mods (ats upgrade, DPS pump and ram air), I had a lot power over the range as well but a lot black smoke. Do you get black smoke with the DPS pump?

I can get black smoke but in general no. If I want the truck to dump some black smoke I have to have it in a high gear and dog it down on the speed then when its dogged down I can floor it and get some smoke while it tries to build up some RPMs. Just normal driving I really dont notice any black smoke though! I need to install a new exhaust system and I think I may gian even more power. The question is how much more do I need and at what price. What RPM does yours pull strong up to? I wish I had an automatic if I get on mine I am shifting kind of fast!

I think the better set up is considered to be the 5 speed (mileage and simplicity). The 4.10's don't help either. I'm kind of wondering if my DPS pump is bad but I could have other problems as well. I get black smoke at all RPM's and more noticeable when the boost is low. I have new injectors but one could be bad. The engine can pull up to 3700 rpm and it feels like a gas engine. I just have to ignore all the smoke.

Have you done the ram air and gauges yet?

I have a new Isspro pyro with an old boost gauge. I really question the boost gauge though. The highest boost I have ever had was 6psi but the truck runs like a bat outa you know. I have a massive hi flow air cleaner but I have yet to figure out how to do a ram air set up. I ordered a brand new turbo pump from the company that sells them on e-bay and I got screwed, I know from experience you can get a jacked up new pump. What boost are you running? I would think there is some way to get your engine to burn up that extra fuel. How about timing?

So it actually makes LESS smoke after the electric pump?? I ask because mine is turbo, but it doesn't run very clean.

cranked up the wastegate to get about 9 psi, some recommended turning it up to 12psi (see other post). 6 psi is the factory setting so unless you modified the wastegate, that is all you are going to get. I've been messing with the timing for a while, even looked for a shop to do it but they are few and far between. I've been doing it by ear.

I have no wastegate but I can tell you mine has a fast smooth rythmic sound to it. I mean it is incredibly smooth and fast much more so than it used to be before I did all the work!

I installed the IP first and ran it for awhile then I put in the new fuel pump. I think the old fuel pump was getting weak in the upper RPM range. I also put in new turbo injectors.
