5R110 by BTS or John Wood?

I recently bought a 2004 Excursion, XLT, 6.0 and the 5R110 tranny, with 62K miles.

My last vehicle was a 2001 F-350, 7.3 and the exploding transmission from that year...luckily only cost me $2000 for a complete rebuild as I got lucky with the mechanic AAA towed me too!

I have noticed that my Excursion has a tendancy to hesitate going from reverse to drive. Obviously I get nervous as my 2001 had the same symtoms before giving way. I don't want this hanging over my head again as my Ex is my daily driver. I have decided on either BTS or John Wood. I really don't want to disturb either with a simple question, so I thought I would ask it here.

My question: Do either BTS or John Wood rebuild the 5R110 transmission?

Cheers!

Mark

Titan...

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that the TC will be replaced as well, hopefully with the 6.4 or what BTS or John recommends!

Cheers!

John Woods--yes the 6.4 uses the 5R110.

Try flushing your tranny first. If it hasn't been serviced regularly it might just be full of particles floating around. Make sure you change the toilet paper roll filter under the right front corner of the truck (passenger side) also. Sounds more like a solenoid sticking than tranny failure to me.

I don't know. I was reading the SoCaps forum with regard to John Wood and someone mentioned that John installed a 6.4 TC for him. I could be wrong...been all over the internet researching this so I may be a bit mixed up right now.

Cheers!

I'm going with John Woods, not only because he's reasonably close to me but he's amazing with the Torqshift and he's a Ford guy.

I've heard, but not experienced, that ATS has some customer service issues.

Suncoast has a great reputation.

ats is overpriced in my opinion. my driveline is pretty stout. beefed up 5r110, and a triple disc low stall billet converter cost me around 5000 with labor and everything.

He said "BTS" NOT ATS. Brians Truck Shop still isn't doing anything with the rebuilding of the 5R110 yet. I've been on Brain since I bought my truck in Dec. 05!! He's not too far away so I planned on driving it to him when he's ready, but I've been looking elsewhere because he doesn't seem to have any interest in working on the 5R110. Matt at Spartan Diesel Technologies is going to be working on it very soon. I'm waiting for his. He's got a GREAT rep and the more I talk to him about issues, the more I like him. He's a great guy with great customer service and he's a freakin' genius in my opinion!!

LOL--you just don't know. Just wait. Your turn is coming when you get to Hendersonville. I've got a list of projects my budget just won't allow, but they're coming. Just gotta get my daughter through school first then it's Katy bar the door.

After the studs, injectors, fluiddampner, and the fuel regulator I'm going to hang it up(unless the tranny kit is done).
