C6ae-r vs. c8ae-h
Can anyone tell me which head is better, c6ae-r or c8ae-h? Second question what kind of power can I get from these heads?I am putting them on a 390 with flat tops, 274 crane cam, edelbrock performer intake, 750cfm. edelbrock carb.I have read a lot about these heads but, No one has said what kind of horse power they produce? Can anyone give me some idea of what they produce?

Best Intake w/ c6ae-r or c8ae-h
I was told that the Edlebrock Performer intake was not a good choice, "They said,it would hurt my horse power with c6ae-r or c8ae-h"? What intake would be better,Performer RPM, Weiand Stealth,or go to a single plane intake?Could I use a 1'' or 2'' spacer with the Performer?Any idea of what I should do?Thanks, zrxlover.

What is this engine going in??? What gears? What size valves are in the heads? What are you trying to accomplish??? A little hard to point "YOU" in the right direction if you cant provide the info...... Otherwise its a wast of time to try to tell ya what you should use. Does that make sense to ya? I dont want to give out bad info....JMHO

c8ae-h reply to 428cj
I'm sorry for not providing the right information 428cj. Let me try again, the motor is in a 1976 F-100 with 3.25 gears, 2.02 in./1.55 ex. valves,274 crane cam, edlebrock performer intake, Holley 600 cfm carb.,TCI saturday night special torque converter, 28 deg. advanced timing. I was wondering what horse power am I making with this set up.I have two sets of c6ae-r heads also,I was wondering if I should rebuild these heads and put them on or stay with the c8ae-h? I'm trying to get the most horse power I can for a street machine. What intake do you recommend? Is this enough information 428cj? Thank you for your reply, zrxlover.

I would run the C8's with a 2.09In And a 1.66Ex. They used those same heads with that Valve size on the 428PI's.
Later I would upgrade some of your parts to help get the most out of your engine. I would run one of these intakes: ED Streetmaster, Holley Street Dominator, ED F-427, Fords PI, ED RPM and so on.
I also would change your carb to at least a 650-750 Holley carb. Next would be headers (if you dont have them already) with 2.5" dual exhaust. Also a cheap set of Roller Rockers (like Comps, or the ones I listed). Also a set of 3.5 to 3.7 gears will help a ton! But you might like your 3.25 gears.....
Like I have said, do it over time and you will get there. Those things I have listed will help get the most out of your 390 and you will be able to drive it everyday with out affecting your street ability. It would be a "VERY" good start!!! JMHO

c8ae-h 390 f-100 build
Thanks for your advice 428cj, I will get a different intake and get a 750 cfm carb.. I have headers dual exhaust 3'' to flowmasters and 2.25'' outlet of flowmasters with H-pipe. I know that the 3.5 to 3.70 gears will perform better but, I will be tacked up on the highway @ 70 mph. with the 3.70's. I might try the 3.50's?Thanks again 428cj for your knowledge and time, zrxlover.

They kick butt for proportion problems where you are considering changes.
A calculator will spit out numbers but give you no feel for what's going on
and get you confused right quick if you enter something in the wrong order.
I slid the 3 over the 3.5 and got:
12/14 and 17/20 lined up straight.
So if your gear has 17 teeth a 20 tooth gear would get you the same.
Is your odometer and speedometer reading right now?
How far off are they?

How many teeth your speedometer gear you got now? :)
Easy as anything to get it "closer to right" when the new gear is chosen.
Bigger tires got it to reading slow?

Yeah, if you ain't got a slide rule, get one.
