No! Something is not right. Did you install new lifters? New Camshaft? Run the engine to break in the new cam? If you do not have adjustable rockers, valve rocker adjustment is made by installing longer pushrods. If everything else is in order try a longer pushrod on the lifter that is ticking. Not all of them, just the one that is making noise.

here's my story .i checked the the pushrods on the mirrow all was fine none bent. the lenth all look the same as far as being right next to each other. the engine was a total redo everything stock from crank to lifters, pushrods are the old ones.i took the engine to my local machienist.he did my heads and check them. all he did to the heads was put more seats in them .he checked my block and bored one cylinder and put a sleve in it .so the block is still stock bore .he put the botom half in i mean the main and cam baerings the timeing gears and chain, crank, cam and pistons.i did the rest .got the torques out of the steve christ book.the first problem i had was i couldnt get it to crank because i thought the rotor was suposed to be toward the number one piston not the wire.guy next door showed me that, and it fired right up .then did what steve christ sugested timeing, leaks, oil presure well you know .

far as breaking in the cam i really don't know what you mean.

the engien seems to run fine except for the ticking that only happens sometimes its not constant .the other thing i notice is when the engien gets warm and i get up to about 50 55 the temp gauge wants to get up a little more that middle ways and when i slow down it goes down a little less the half.

thanks for the response any other info needed i will be pleased to post

the rockerarms are non adjustable .today i notice that my radiator was boiling should it be doing that .my temp gauge is now staying just half way of the middle of the cold side. going to buy me another tept gauge soon. when i first chrank it in the morning the oil gauge is at 50 then when it warms up it drops to about 35 40 .when riding down the road the oil stays in the 50s.just curious about this thing never did anything like this before or had anything like it ,thanks

Engines will run a little warm/hot until they are broken in (about 5-600 miles). Breaking in a camshaft is done by running the engine at 1500 RPM for 30 Minutes. Breaking in rings is done after that by driving the truck to about 50 MPH, allow it to slow down to 30MPH or so and accelerating up to 50-55 MPH and letting it slow to 30 MPH again and again (about 10 -15 cycles). No full throttle runs! The boiling could be caused by an improperly installed thermostat? The gage reading sounds about right. Halfway on most of these gages is about 190-200 which is OKAY and expected on a new engine. The ticking can be resolved with a next over sized pushrod. Or if you want to spend the bucks call Rob McQ @ Blue Oval Performance 303 762-8298 and get a set of adjustable rockers.
