Parts

I'm in Vancouver now. What are some good places to buy parts?

We're downtown.

So, what, did you move here? Or are you just visiting?

Downtown you say? Get to SW Marine Drive, there's a Lordco there. Marine and Main is Brown Bros. Ford.

There are some wreckers on Mitchell Island.

I have been very dissappointed with the price of parts in Vancouver. While the previously mentioned parts outlet seems to be able to get most parts, the prices tend to be high. For example, a Federal Mogul (Canadian made) 460 fuel pump was $41US (no tax) at NAPA in Portland Oregon, the identical pump is $75 (plus taxes) on Marine Drive and $70 (plus taxes) across from Docksteader in South Vancouver! Crazy. When you ask for a discount or make an offer of what you are willing to pay, you end up walking out.

Similarly, some of the used parts places (Mitchell Island and Scott Road) are charging high prices - $80 for a used (1975 vintage) power steering pump. The pump lasted 3 months.

The only good deals I've been able to find in BC are private.

we're just visiting... my girlfriend's work sent her here for a month with a furnished apartment and everything else so I decided to tag along. i'm gonna shop for a nice truck while we're here and we'll drive it back to Montreal next month. Take a little time off and see the country.

If I could talk her into staying I would. I'm having a blast, the weather's great, and there's no French people. Except for the traffic, Vancouver is a really nice town.

Anyways.... I can't say what parts I need because I'm still shopping for a truck... If anyone knows of one I'm looking for a full size pickup, 4x4, long box, AC, Fuel injection and no rust. 86 and up.

I figure with the USA so close, I'll end up doing what I always do and pick up what I need in the states at Autozone

Be careful.
Though Vancouver doesn't use road sand /Calcium Chloride blend......Rust is a plenty due to the Humid Air.

Rust finds its way in BC.

You are in luck being there right now.

Check out the GVMA car/truck show at Spanish Banks beach next weekend.

http://www.gvma.org/gvma/clubevents.htm

Or contact someone from the club as they are "in the know" of what is for sale

There will be lots of Great trucks for sale.

When there ..You can buy me an XXXL T-shirt from the show and I'll send you some money for it.
I have been collecting them for 12-14 years.

Isn't there a show in Langley Today ?

Lots of things for sale there as well.

Langley Cruise In is Sept 8th.

Autozone? In the States? I don't think there is one in Blaine, but there might be one in Bellingham, or somewhere by Bellis Fair.

There's a parts place on 2nd Ave somewhere, can't think of the name of it, but it's between Main and Cambie.

A Ford parts specialty place is out in Port Kells, just north of 96th Ave on 192nd Street. Surrey. The place is called JobRite.

Rockauto.com ships to Canada at reasonable rates now; no getting hit with a $50 brokerage fee from UPS.

There used to be an auto wrecker that had days when it was "everything you could pull and carry" for $50. I helped a friend fix a ton of stuff on his beater econobox: he got new windshields front and rear, reclining seats, spare tire, and various trim pieces. The rule was that one person had to carry all the parts over a certain distance unaided. Unfortunately I didn't bring a camera, but if you can picture a walking swap-meet stall...

In Calgary Pick Your Part did that but the price was only $29.99.

I used to go just to watch what people carried the 10 ft and over the line.

My favourite was watching 2 bikers carry a 454 with trans attached across the line and set it on the deck of a truck.

454 w/trans - $59.98

watching them do it ..= Priceless

My one buddy I used to work with, said he had a friend that dragged two 350 chevy engines the distance to get them both for 50 bucks. He said it was quite the site to see! I kinda wish they still had that now a days.
