4.2 CRACKING BLOCKS OUT THERE?

Haven't heard of this. Did it over-heat? Or have an ice plug in the radiator (I cracked a head on a big block that way!)?

4.2 CRACKING BLOCKS OUT THERE?

I believe he cracked it from driving through the flood waters of hurricane floyd, we are here in north carolina, where the water got pretty high,
i dont understand why his 4.2 cracked though, his truck is a 97 f150, we have a 92 flareside with a 300 six our motor didnt crack and we went through the same, maybe worse flood waters,i was curious if anyone else had a cracked 4.2, maybe the block is poorly casted. anyways, he traded his 97 f150 in for a 99 ranger 4.0. he gets pretty good discounts on ford vehicles being he works up the road at the norfolk, va ford truck assembly plant.

4.2 CRACKING BLOCKS OUT THERE?

Did you're friend know about a recent recall on 97 F150's for a leak in the timing chain gasket?(I'm pretty sure it was the timing chain gasket) It slowly drips out the coolant. If he didn't have enough coolant flowing, and was working his engine hard, driving through the hurricane, then it is very possible to overheat and cause the engine crack. That recall happened earlier this year. I wonder if your friend could get reperations from Ford for any lost moneys, if it can be corolated to the coolant loss recall issue?? Anyway, that's my two cents, no change please.

all i know he put 80,000 something miles on it before the motor cracked, he may have knew about the recall, but he wanted to get a ranger anyway.

4.2 CRACKING BLOCKS OUT THERE?

I cracked a 4.0 liter block in a 97 Wrangler by submerging it in 55 degree lake water. I'm pretty sure that's what happened to your friend, the water was warmer but think of a hot glass in cold water.

4.2 CRACKING BLOCKS OUT THERE?

We have had good luck out of our 4.2v6
but it is a 2000 and dosnt have 10,000
miles on it but I think that the 3.8v6
and 4.2 v6 are good engines in my opinion
maby there was a casting problem early
in the production oops i for got the 4.0v6
thats my two cents
