Replace radio in an '83 Bronco XLT

Hey guys. I'm having some problems upgrading my stock radio to a new Pioneer stereo. I have all the proper wiring, bought the needed extra wires to connect the cd player to the old connectors, but it just won't work.

The player won't power up. Is there any reason besides either faulty wiring in the cd player or in the extra wires that would cause it not to work, such as some type of memory box?

And as it says in the topic title, I have a 1983 Bronco XLT. Thanks for any support.

Grab your multimeter and check for voltage on the harness with radio unplugged. Did you check the fuses in the truck and that are attached to the radio? Did the old radio work or just time to get rid of the cassette player(wow I remember how to spell cassette, I think)

Oh I'm sorry for not saying anything about the old radio.

It works perfectly fine. I've disconnected and reconnected it numerous times and it works fine and dandy. However, it's just a radio. If it was a cassette player, I'd have no problem with it. But since all it gets is FM and shoddy AM, I opted for a cd player.

what did you do with the blue wire? Thats the remote power out(antennae, amp) I helped this guy trace out a wiring problem in his chevy that started ever since he installed his radio (did not tell me that at the time) he kept blowing fuses (headlights turn signals etc) I finally asked him if it all started after the radio was installed and he said yep I pulled it out and the blue wire was shorting out! Make sure you tape it up so it doesn't hit anything!

Well I have all the extra, unused wires taped individually. There's no way that they can be shorting out. And I have the new cd player grounded well to a nice metal on metal spot.

This is really starting to bug me. I hope i didnt get a dud player =/

To check the player...run a wire (temporarily) to it directly from the battery. Give it a nice ground. If it powers up...start going through your harness with a voltmeter.
