Engine stand for a 460, and how much weight?

I have called various places (Car Quest, Auto zone, Advanced auto) and they say a 460 big block should work on a 750 lb engine stand. I am woundering how much a 460 weighs, mine is a 1979 460. and the engine stand i am using was my dads when he was 19 (he is in his 50's now) and that stand is a flexing a bit. and i have it proped with a jack under it so it dont break.

I am woundering that so if i go and buy one (like the 750) i dont need to worry about breaking it, because i was told it would work.
Thanks for your help!

I have my 460 on one of the 1000lb stands from Northern Tools and it holds it. It has too much motion in it though for my liking. You break a bolt lose and it just bobs up and down for a few minutes. . .kinda scary

They do make a 2000lb engine stand. My 460 is pretty precious to me. I would rather pay an extra $60.00 for the security that it is not going to hit the floor. Especially with my foot under It.

i ended up witha 1000 lb one for about $45 at Fleet and farm. It does bob like crazy.
It was hard to turn, but that was because i guess i have it a little off center. But the good news is the exhaust manifolds came out easy! thanks a lot for your information!

I have an ancient Lakewood stand that can be folded for easy carrying. It is rated 1000lbs. I think. I have had a full dress 430 Lincoln on it (roughly 850lbs.) with no problem, only time it really botherd me has been Jaguar engines, the old 4.2L six is a heavy, long hunk of cast iron and the 12 is just plain long. It was advertised when i bought it to carry a full dress 392 hemi.
