What kind of oil do you use?

Hey, whats up ppl.? what kind of oil do you use? My manual says to use 5W-30. I've got a '97 F-150 XL 4.2 with 100,000 miles one it and I'm about to get my motor rebuilt. After about a 20 minute ride, something starts knocking and my oil pressure drops. When I put this new motor in, I think I'm going to use a thicker oil for more protection. Doesn't 5W-30 seem a little thin anyway? What kind of oil do you use?

I have a 98 F150 XL with 4.2 and I use 5W30 full synthetic. No problems.

i was talking to a mechanic i know about my truck. He said when a motor is like brand new, its tight..; so you use thinner oil. but when you put some miles on the thing and it goes out of warranty, you should put a lot thicker oil so that you can get more protection. He poured some "Lucas" in the oil and thats working pretty good, but soon i'm gonna have to get a crank kit and he's gonna put it in for me.

I run Mobil 1 10W-30 in my '01 F150, and haven't had any problems. My thought was that it flows better in the cold than the 5W-20 Ford now recommends (which is only partially synthetic), and should protect a lot better. In my older Fords I've generally run M1 15W-50, but until the new truck hits 100K or so I'm sticking to the thinner stuff.

What kind of oil do you use?

1998 F-150, 4.2L with a little over 50,000 miles showing...
Used Castrol 5w50 full synthetic since 1,000 miles. The motor runs as good as new and, so far, isn't burning any oil.

Side note: I run 235/85/16 tires so my speedo is off about 8 mph.

Best regards...
