Hard Shift w/ Tuner

Anyone have this experience or advice: With my DP Tuner, on occasion, when accelerating pretty hard it will "bam" slam into the next shift. Doesn't do it without tuner. Never does it either way when driving and accelerating normal. I don't get on the pedal much but, like I said, once in awhile when I need to accelerate to pass or merge... "bam" on the high shift. The tranny had only 5K on it when I bought the truck last December with 175K. I'm afraid I'll damage the tranny. I've been in contact with Jody and waiting to hear back. Again it is rare and often doesn't do it. ????

Yes, I had the same problem!!!! I have the D.P tuner and used to have the banks trans command, With the trans command hooked up and the D.P my truck would shift SO HARD I thought it was going to tear the rear end OUT!!! I removed the trans commmand, it shifted better but still to hard. Last week I purchased the BTS valve body and plate, removed the trans command and Bingo, Thats it, shifts GREAT, firm like it should but no BANGING into gear now! Yes it still gets rubber when shifting to 2nd but its a firm shift, NICE, I HIGHLY recomend getting the BTS or equivelant valve body and plate!

I second the valve body, best thing I ever did. I used to cringe every time it was going to shift because I knew at a certain throtle/acceleration limit it was going to shift hard. Now the shifts are all crystal clear/firm. Not hard mind you in case you are wondering. The best way I had it explained was that it shifts like it should have from the factory.

I also had the exact samething when i got the dp and was thinking when my valve body gets here it will shift even harder but was the opposite nice short and crisp shift and still lays rubber on 2nd.

Great place to start and hopefully finish! Thanks guys. I love this forum. Say, I'm new enough to all this just give me some direction on the BTS valve body. Where did ya'll buy it? Easy to install? Not even sure what it is. Thanks again! Sounds like we are on to the problem!

You have to call BTS to order the Valve body, $225 for the valve body and plate with a $150 core charge. The valve body and plate are easy to install, I think Guzzles page has directions.

I think it's $225 and another $150 that you get back when you return the core. $375 up front. That's nothing when you are talking about a $4000 (or so) transmission.

That sounds like it may be a torqueconverter issue to me 1869. especially with only 40k on the tranny. How many miles on the TC?
