Cool 2008 F250 MPG Issue

Hey Guys,

I'm fairly new here, but I am in need of some help. I've noticed several MPG threads all throughout the fourm and the results I see are pretty much consistant. I am in the middle of a dispute resolution with the BBB and Ford as we speak. I was lied to multiple times when I purchased my 08 F250 6.4L 4x4 CC 3.73. I was told it would get the same or better as what I was getting in my 2006, which was 17 or 18 mpg pretty much all the time, HWY or CITY. I am now getting 9.5 CITY and 11.5-12.0 HWY if I'm lucky and this to me is absolutley crazy. I've got almost 8000 miles on the truck, I was also told that after 5000 the MPG would increase grealty and all that other crap...and come to find out that is a lie, so anyone else who has been told that, I hate to tell ya, but you've been lied to. Called ford and fought with them and finally got the BBB involved and I'm supposed to be going to a hearing soon (haven't got the exact date yet). What I need from you guys is just a simple post on this thread about your trucks configuration and what MPG you get HWY and CITY. This should be unloaded and not towing anything. Any help you guys can offer would be great.

Thanks Again,
Brian

Well i get about 10.5 to 11 in town and 12.5 to 14 highway in a 350 SD FX4 SRW LB 3.73 5 speed trans with 33" tires. I have 3800 miles on mine and the milage has improved about 1-2 MPG since the truck was new.

The only numbers i've seen in the 16-18 range are from the guys with the 6 speed stick and i think there skeptical, since my average's fall into about the same as most of the post i've read around here.

The new trucks are heavier than the older ones and are pleged with the emission equpiment that the 06's did'nt have which attrubite to the lower fuel ecomony numbers we are seeing.

I can say that milage in my 99.5 PSD 7.3 improved all the way to around 20,000 miles.

Mpg

My 08 6.4 f-250 gets around 15-16 in town and has gone as high as 21 at a steady 55mph. It is an auto. The mileage meter is very close to the old fill the tank and set the odometer method. Alot of the MPG is driving habits, tires, weather, and so on. The 08 does get 1 to 2 mpg more than my 05 did so I am happy. Maybe yours needs a scan or something at the dealership to see if there is a sensor that is out of range. Only a real time scan will be accurate, not just looking for codes.

17-18.6 Highway, 12-14 City.

2008 F-350 Crew Cab dually, 4x4, 6-speed, 3.73 gears.

I didn't get this mileage untill I started towing some heavy loads. Running 20 psi of boost for about 4 hours towing 10k helped break in that motor and set the rings.

my avg mpg

I have a 6.4L F250 4x4 CC shortbed. It has less than 1000 miles on it and I average only 12 mpg. This is much worse than I was told it would be by the dealer! I started out at only 10 mpg, but it improved to 12 mpg if you can call that an improvemet. My last F250 6.L got about 16mpg.

My 08 F250 4X4 did not have a MPG rating on the window sticker when I bought it. I did not research the web to find out what others were getting with their 6.4s. I kind of bought the truck not knowing what kind of milage I was going to get. I know that the salesperson will tell you what ever you want to hear so I didn't even ask about milage. Well with 3.73 gears and the 5sp auto I do about 13 in town and 17-18 highway unloaded at 4500mi. Wish it could be a little better but I think the days of high MPG diesel pickups may be over for good.

I have a F250, KingsRanch, 4x4, 6.4L, with 3.73s. I have about 5,000 miles on it and seems to be getting about 13.2 mpg in "stop and go" short trip city driving and on the two last empty highway runs it was at 19.1 at 63 mph and 17.6 at over 65 mph.

On a trip towing my Jeep it got 11.1, with some city driving and mostly open road at over 65 mph. I will be doing the trip towing the Jeep again the first of next month will check it again.

Also, I have the 20 " wheels with the bigger tires.

I have an 08 F350, DRW, LWB, with 4.3 rear end. I get 10 MPG unloaded, and 8 MPG pulling a 10,000# fifth wheel. It has been pulled pretty hard, and really hasn't improved much since I drove it off the lot over 16000 miles ago.

I pull alot, and expected to take a hit from the 4.3 gears, but not this much.

Just curious, but have you had all PCM re-flashed performed? If yes, have you tried disconnecting your batteries with head lights on...and removing all residual electric from the system? This will allow the PCM to re-learn your driving...and possibly improve your MPG.

My F350 is a 3.73 swb crew 4x4. In 17000 miles I haven't seen improvement. I run 35" tires. On my 06 I got 13 in town 15-16 hwy. Now I get 8 in town, 11.5 hwy at 70+. Damn Ford. Damn Them.

13 and 15 City and Highway , F250 Auto 3.73 unloaded. It will do better on the highway if I keep it at 2000. I have 2500 miles and have seen slow improvements to get to these numbers over time.

Smile 08 superduty mpg

My 08 4x4 CC shortbed hasnt shown me anything under 14.4 on the mileage meter pulling my trailers. I dont know how close it is but unloaded never above 17.1. In my opinion it got better milage before it got broke in. It has over 11,000 miles on it now. Maybe it was just me. lol My dealer never said anything about what kind of mileage it would get and hell probably half the salesmen have never even driven a superduty enough to know what kind of mileage they would get. Now I do know that when mine goes into the cleaning mode(whatever that is) if I am driving thru town man it sucks up some fuel. Has anyone else noticed this? I still love it though. LONG LIVE THE SUPERDUTY lol

I have a 2008 6.4L Auto 4x4 CC SB w/ 3:73's. With 7k miles, AFE intake, 4" exhaust....I only see about 12mpg. I would say about half is city, the other is highway.
