Why would anyone have a problem with what someone else does to their truck or how they choose to spend their money. We are happy with our stock truck and it does the job we purchased it for. I am now a old fart but I was once a young guy living in the moment guy(remember those times) The only difference between that young guy and this old fart is we have lived longer, learned much and are a lot smarter. We once spent more money doing things to a 64 Chebby than we paid for it. Stupid by this old guys standards..yes...fun by that young guys standards..you bet. Have fun..
Brings a tear to my eye! Is somebody picking on me?
Nah, the way I see it, we are winning the vote about five to 1. I remember back about fifty years ago. My dad had a friend and brought my brother and I a pin ball machine. We always wanted to make it faster, quicker and different. My point is simple. Once we took the first screwdriver to it, shortly thereafter we had a pile of junk which we burned.

I too was led to believe that after 8,000 - 10,000 that my fuel mileage would increase and I now have 22,500 on my '08 F250 Diesel and the mileage has NOT changed one bit (averaging 11 mpg). I actually called the dealer this morning because I was told that my "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" was coming on and processing too many times. What I was told by the Diesel Manager was that it is kicking in as normal and that if the cleaning system kicks in and I do not allow it to finish than it starts over when I start it up again and this process takes 1 1/2 - 2 gallons each time it does this, and this is where my fuel is going since it has been doing this to me 5-7 times per week which means 10-14 gallons of Diesel extra each week that is an additional $30 - $35 per week that it is costing me.

I would drive it then 20 - 30 min on the hwy then and see if it solves the problem.

My 08 F250 6.4 now has 92k miles, it must be a job 1 because I purchased it in Feb 07. About 4 monts ago I received the Ford notice to take it in and have the PCM re programmed because many of the 08 6.4's still did not display any of the regen info. (starting regen, completed regen, hot exhaust etc) Ever since they did this, or tried to, my milage for in town dropped to 12 where it was 14. I have yet to have a regen since the reprogramming (about 6k miles) and nothing has displayed. I hardly do any hwy driving or get a chance to get over 55 so it's not cleaning by active regen either. I dont miss the cycles because it used to be it smoked like crazey during regen if I slowed down or stopped. When it happens at low speeds you start thinking all sorts of bad things, bad fuel, filter, some sensor etc. The way to test this is to stop and put it in park and take your foot off the brake, the idle will rev up. If you touch the brake like your going to put it into gear the idle will drop. Two points here, you CAN let it idle to complete the cycle. 2nd, the dealers can reprogram the PCM to many many levels or "updates" which have drastic effects on milage and performance. Keep taking it in until you get programming that works best for you. In my case, I'm not sure if the programming was complete or the DPF file was somehow deleted. My hwy milage is 19 taking it easy and 12 around town. I'm not in any rush to go back to the dealer complaining about a possible DPF file delete. It runs better now at 90k than it did off the show room floor.
Wow...seems that fuel mileage is ALL OVER the place regardless of mods or no mods.
Sounds to me like it has a LOT more to do with how you drive the truck than what mods you do...albeit the mods will exxaggerate your driving habits and you'll see greater gains or losses - also depending on your driving habits.

my truck was doing the same thing, my problem was i had waited too long to get the latest pcm and tcm flashes and the dpf turned out to be plugged. they replaced it for free. however i'm running 35's with s&b intake mbrp exhaust and now with the latest flashes i'm getting around 17mpg unloaded. brandon sounds like u need the newest flash because mine was doing the same thing before. and 428drag its called the dpf regen better known as largest pile of crap ever invented. you can kiss that fuel good by however if you try to run a constant 55 mph for 30 mins or so every tank my truck seems to not do it very often or long anymore city driving is TERRIBLE for this.
11000 miles, 20" wheels, auto, 4x4. 64 miles per day. 65 mph max on cruise for 50% of time. On a 3 tanks of fuel average, I get 16 mpg, empty. Drops to 15 when I pull the 4000 lb boat to the lake. Exhaust cleaning mode hits me at about 330 miles.
19,000 miles, everything stock, f350 crew cab with topper: 10-12mpg depending on whether I towed or not. Got fed up and did spartan dpf/cat delete with intake and now up to 16.5mpg's hand calculated. My 1992 7.3 got almost 25mpg on off road diesel! So in 17 years this is how far technology has evolved! The tree huggers at the EPA are hipocrits! Whats worse for the environment; diesel exhaust or having thousands of diesel guzzling trucks that get 10mpg. So much for reducing our dependance on foreign oil. One part of the government is trying to dig a hole and the other department is filling it in! Can't blame ford, they're hands are tied with all the mandates.

I agree 100 percent. The new administration wants cars to be cleaner, AND get higher mileage...kinda like saying eat six bacon cheesburgers a day AND lose 100 pounds.....
Exactly what I've been thinking...lets see i little bit better emissions using 40% more fuel? yea some real smart tree huggers coming up with great things in CA

Couldn't agree more.
What's worse is finding out the yutz scientist at the EPA that came up with the DPF idea wasn't even an accredited scientist, so they let him go but kept the DPF in the system because they were too far along to do a redesign.
What's worse, is that the nation's fleets of heavy trucks are going thru the same thing. I said in 1968 when the EPA was beginning that it was going to cost a lot of money for consumers. I wish I would have been wrong. I replaced my 05 6.0L with an 06 5.4L f150 because of fuel mileage and maintenance expenses. If my towing needs were to increase, I'd definatel try to find an old 7.3L or a newer SD V-10 until the diesel emiisions are figured out to keep from fleecing the consumer. I love diesels, but loathe what the government and tree huggers have done to them. It' even illegal to smoke a good cigar in public any more.
I have a 08 F250 6.4L SD King Ranch with 3.73. The worst I have ever gotten towing 12000lbs was about 9.8 and that was through the hills, with a headwind doing about 60-65mph.
In town driving, I get about 13.3 and on the highway I average about 17-19. I owned an 05 6.0L and mileage was about the same. The only complaint I have with this one is the dang regen on it. It always comes on when I am in town or towing and going up a hill here in California. Seems like a waste of fuel to me and still too aggressive. Save us some money and fuel and find a way to cut back. There is absolutely no predictability when the next time it will come on so you can plan when towing heavy loads.
