This may have been covered in another thread somewhere, but I did not see it....

Would it make sense at all to have lower EGTs running bio than what you would otherwise experience running regular #2 diesel?

I've been keeping an eye on my pyrometer, and it could be just my perception of lower temps and not reality....... but it seems like I may be running maybe slightly cooler EGTs after 6-8 weeks of running B20 exclusively.

Does this sound like its probably just me wishing it were the case, or would it be possible?

 

They say biodiesel makes slightly less power than #2. Lower EGT's would seem to confirm it.

 

Both my trucks run about 100-150 deg lower with B-100

 

That doesn't make sense to me. IF it has lower BTU's wouldn't you just burn a little more to make the same power and speed?

 

I am guessing... but I thought the lower EGT's might have been due to the fact that it would have a higher water content than dino????

 

Guess again Fred I test my bio all the time, and it has no water in it. Properly made bio will contain almost 0 water.

IMHO, it's because it's an oxygenated fuel. I think it burns cooler and more completely because of it's oxygen content.

I noticed a 100 to 200 deg drop when I started running B100. I can't get it over 800 or so anymore.
