Pointless for a 4.2 V6?

Pointless for a 4.2 V6?
I have a brand new 07 F-150 XL with the V6. I noticed as I floor the accelerator sometimes I can hear the throatiness of the V6, and to be honest it sounds like it has some mini *****. I'm curious if putting an aftermarket exhaust would achieve any desirable sound. Not expecting anything like my FlowMaster setup did on my old F-150 that had a 4.6 V8...but I would like some rumble and attitude.
Also, since it is, after all, a V configuration, would it be worth it to go ahead and do a dual exhaust? And finally, what system would sound the deepest, ballsiest, most rumble for the buck being hooked up to a V6? Flows? Magna's? What?
Thanks in advance!

You can do exhaust on it but not true duals. (as that would require hacking off the converters, obviously)
I've heard a V6 with true duals (x pipe, flowmasters) on a Mustang that sounded good, but otherwise it seems to be hard to make a V6 sound good because of that "buzz."

Hmm. I was recommended IMCO Extremes (CherryBombs) on F150Online's forum. But then again I asked for "the loudest freakin' muffler for a V6", so I guess that's the best answer for that type of "application", haha.
It's either IMCO (CherryBomb) Extremes, FlowMaster 40/Super 40/Super 44, or if I like the FullBlowns you recommended (Bear River) then they'll be in the running too.
Is it 2.25" or 2.5" wide pipe that comes stock on 07's?

Right now i have a catback system with a magnaflow installed. its not that loud n it doesnt create that deep muscle sound that i was looking for. I was suggested to run true duals, cutting out the cats and putting two magnaflows where the cats used to be, however i was told that it would probably sound ricey at high rpms. If I were to do that would adding a resonator or glasspack help create that muscular tone Im looking for instead of the ricey sound?

Ok first off, the Maganflow mufflers are not chambered. Without the chambers, you don't get that deep tone shift. The Maganflow has a deep rumble at idle simply because it removes other frequencies. A Flowmaster on the other hand has no sound absorbing materials, but instead allows the sound to wave shift, ot become deeper because of the shape and size of the interior of the muffler. This is what makes Maganflow type mufflers great for smaller engines but unsuitable for that musclecar sound.
If you ran true duals on a V6, it would sound even less like a V8, and more like a ricer V6.
Magnaflow cats are no different than anyone elses cats in terms of flow, they use the same 400 cpi ceramic substrate that everyone else use, so the airflow is actually the same. In contrast, you pay more for a Maganflow cat because of the name, and you get less to show for it, the quality of the materials they use is fairly low.
If I were you, I would leave the factory cats in place, and replace the muffler with a dual outlet chambered muffler. If you want it really loud, use a single chamber muffler and either bring the tailpipe out in front of the rear tires, or dump it under the bed.

I put a 40 series on a 4.0l explorer already. Its sort of monotone and doesn't really have any rumble to it. If it were me I would keep the exhaust mellow.
If you like magnaflows mufflers I would look at their XL series which is similar to a turbo muffler but a little different. It is chambered but still uses packing, they have pics on their site. The XL mufflers are also fairly inexspensive. I would just replace the muffler and add a tip because the stock piping is a pretty good size for the smaller V6.

I would agree though, you should keep the exhaust mellow. Thats why I use a 50 series instead of a 40 series. Our 18" or 22" WickedFlows would be quite mellow, probably too mellow. Our 14" is very popular and is quieter than the Magnaflow of the same size. Several local shops we deal with tell me they prefer the sound of the WickedFlow. Whats nice about out muffler is it doesn't change over time either. In ten years it will still sound exactly the same as it does now.
