Well, there is something to be said that people shouldn't expect too much out of these beasts in the mpg, however, there is nothing wrong with trying to eek out as much as they can and stretch that tank further then what oem allows.

not tying to be a jerk, but dont buy a 4 ton truck for a grocery getter and complain about about lousy mileage. There are a lot of people that own these heavy trucks that have NEVER towed anything or anything over 2000 lbs or never even put a load in the bed. Thats what Rangers and F150's are for.

On the other hand, for those of us that need these things----
There is a group of guys around here messing with electrolysis and others stuff. The one guy told me the simplest thing he has done has yielded the best results. Lucas gas additive, put in 150% of recommended doseage. If it calls for 10 oz, put in 15, etc. He said the extra dose has given him a 4 mpg boost in his truck with a gas engine.

If I drive mine normally with the flow of traffic I get 15mpg combined empty. If I drive around 60-65 I can get 17ish but it is simply not worth going that slow to me. It all depends on how many stop lights I hit and if I go over 60 it starts to go down. I have the scangauge to monitor and check by hand. On a road trip I would rather get 13/14 going 75-80 then 15-17 going 60ish and take hours longer. Worst I ever got towing was pulling a tall heavy trailer against the wind up and down hills going 75mph was 8-9mpg.
