I have a 2004 F150 that I am thinking about trading in. In discussion with 2 dealers about potentially waiting on the 2009 F150 they both have said the same thing. "Don't hold your breath about the diesel". The reasoning for this is the same. A fully loaded F150 is around 40,000 MSRP and the diesel would probably be around a 5k option. This would put the MSRP around 45k. For about 5-7k more you could put yourself in a 250/350. They are just not optomistic the potential of the diesel ever finding its way to the 150 for this reason. I can see their reasoning and I have thought of the same thing. I know we have some insiders that frequent this board and lots of people that could probably bring a lot to this idea. I feel for it to be a success it would have to bring some serious MPG for me to look at it seriously. I really do not tow or haul much so a 150 would be perfect but if that is all the differance there is I would almost be willing to pay a little extra to get a lot more truck. Any thoughts.
Well, sure if you fully load an F-150 with options it will be close to a low end F-250. But if you get a basic work truck a $5k option like a diesel will only put you at about $23-28k (if a base truck starts at $18-23k).

Dealers always say, don't wait, buy now.. heck buy and and then again then... A 1/2 ton diesel make a lot of sense and will not compete with the HDs. Two completely different trucks. The price is not a factor, today a 1/2 is almost the same as the 3/4 or 1 ton when equipped the same way.
I think the main sticking point of a diesel in an f-150 will be how the lawsuit navistar has against ford comes out in court, ford may have their hands tied until 2012 if they loose???
