Where is the grill on a V10 engine?...and a seat? J/K

My feeling, although not played out in my current situation, is to change the muffler out first. It may not do a whole lot powerwise but it is something you'll notice everytime you start it! And it seems to automatically make it "yours".

I would also say that the best thing that you can "add-on" to your V10 is a "Paid in Full" stamp on the title.

I clicked other because the Banks Power Pack would be my first choice.
If this much $$$ was an issue in deciding then a chip would be my first choice.

In the past I tried a chip (4.6 mustang)and the only thing I could see it did was make me run Super Unleaded. Do they really make a dif here and would I need to burn the t-rex grade dino.

Yes you have to run premium unless you get one of the new Flip chips, or Switch chips. They are basically 2 chips in one with a switch to change them from one program to another. You can get a stock/power, a stock/towing, a towing/power, or whatever you want. Diablo makes it, Kenne Bell makes one, among others I'm sure. My V-10 has plenty of scoot when it's just me driving around scaring old ladies. The switch chip would come in handy when I tow, or when I want to spend an extra $.50 a gallon and race Suburbans (sheesh there's alot of those in my office parking lot. They're like the plague, except uglier). Most of the chip makers have an "off-road/race only" program too (at least Kenne Bell does) that you could have in combination with a stock or towing program. Chips tend to carbon up your engine due to increased timing and more fuel so I wouldn't want to run a performance chip all the time, besides the extra $$$ for premium fuel, good luck.

Rims, Kenne Bell Switch chip, air intake mods, Flowmaster 40, rear disc brake conversion, lighted visor, custom wheels, and (if the 'boss' will agree), a Kenne Bell WhippleCharger.

I voted for "muffler" since that was closest to the Banks Powerpack.

Chips do offer a lot of "bang for the buck". But of the 3 chipped trucks (F150s) that I've owned, none gave me the grin that the Powerpack has brought. Of course, the PP costs a lot more than a chip too!

Do you have the power pack installed? I have an info packet on the way. I am really interested in the transcommander but well you know how it goes I may have to pony up for the whole shooting match one day. I do not want to have to go to super unleaded because I drive 70K plus miles per year.

Yes I have the Power Pack on my 96 and will soon have one on my 02.I can't comment on the Trans-command because I am too cheap to pay extra for an auto trans.and I like a manual. There is no reason to go to premium gas because you installed a Power Pack.If you install a chip you will have to use premium gas, but it will also net you more power

I have the Powerpack on my '01 with neither the Transcommand nor Ottomind. Nothing Banks offers requires the use of premium fuel... not even their chip.

I have found, however, that my truck runs better & gets better MPG on 93 octane fuel. I'm going to run a third tank of 87 to make sure, but if it's as bad as these first two tanks, I'll definitely go back to running 93.

Here a good one, My dad has a used car dealership and used to work for ford. The Ford rep told him one day that you got better milage with reg unlead.
We filled up a Crown Vic on the way to an accution in Dallas with 87 an got 24 mpg then re-filled with 93 and got 21. The next trip we used a F150 this time using 93 to go and 87 to come back again we got like 2.6 MPG better with the 87.
The reason is there is more energy in the lower octane fule, the high octain restist pre-ignition more and burns cooler so you can build more hp by bumping comp and timming. Every MFG's recomendation is to use the lowest octane fule that your vehicle likes. Some, even the same year and motor like more octane than others. If it does not ping then you are OK.

Yep, I get better mileage with reg unleaded. Along with the attributes listed above for premium, it burns slower. If your engine is tuned for it, reg is best. Only if you increase the timing do you need premium (that seems backwards though doesn't it ? Increased timing requires slower burning fuel) because premium burns more completely, thereby eliminating the pinging. Although my V-10 'seems' to run smoother with premium.

My brother and I bought trucks togther about 6 years ago same motor trans rear identical. My truck would ping like mad with reg so I hade to go to the mid grade. His truck you could pull a camper with reg on a hot day and never heard a peep. The dealer had no explanation and both truck performed the same so I can understand what you are saying. Don't know why but understand.
