Goin Fishin.....
Kern River - This weekend every year since 1978. Same group of guys, all seasoned hot-rod builders. This year two of us died..... We used to raise hell but now we are are grandparents, grey, bald and the fishing is more fun than the carousing.........
I just like being around car people. Dark-Side or Gennie, it's all good to me. I'm gonna fish, eat too much and get stupid for a few days........

The River is WAY down. We've had NO rain this year. (yes, I know the rest of the country is under water) There is a massive fire in Santa Barbara and the smoke drifted over us making it pretty hard to breathe. Caught 4 nice Rainbows but came home early.
The Kern County upper desert is filled with vintage trucks and cars. You don't need to look hard. They're everywhere. Coming up the 395 from San Diego, you go thru many old desert towns with a very dry climate and the trucks/cars are just sitting around in pretty good shape.
One town had a line up of 5 or 6 of the larger early 50s Ford and Dodge trucks all parked together. In a town called "Onyx" I saw a really straight 48-50 F-Giant with the Crane mounted. Saw 2ea. 58-60 shortbeds parked in the fields and 40 Ford Coupe that looked like an early 50s custom out with the cows..... Didn't stop to take picture. Didn't want to get shot ....
