Question How Do I Identify A Stock Axle?

OK, this may be the start of a lot of harassment, but I thought I had a dropped axle and now I am not so sure. The leafs are definately stock is there anyway to identify a stock axle? After searching through many galleries my truck doesn't look low enough to be an aftermarket axle. Any help is great.

My guess would be with 8 leaf springs in place, the top of the leafs should be even with the top of the beam or atleast close, but I'm typing without looking at it right now.

Stock axle

the more I look at it I think it is stock. I don't know how to post pics in the forum but I have put two pics in my gallery. If you have a chance to look at them I would appreciate it.

Dennis,
I can't help with the axle question, but here's your pic. When you are looking at pics in your gallery, hit the "forum codes" link and copy and paste that info in your thread.

Good Luck!

I just removed my stock axle and replaced it with a drop axle. The two axles look identical and by eyeball, you can't see the difference if ever slight. The best way is to measure a stock axle and then measure yours from the straight axle to the top of the spindle. I sure noticed a difference when I installed it though.

Thanks for the Post

Kent,

Thanks for hooking up the picture. You gotta be smarter than the machine you are working with. I like the straight axle I would just like to be a little lower. 2 or so inches. I am finishing up my 4 bar in the rear and the wheels are turning (in my head at least).

how much drop? 2"? that would be subtle, I s'pose.

I know mine's stock, and I can measure it if need be. Just lemme know.

Well, it appears to have the tie rod extesions, so you may have the drop axle already?

Question Tie Rod Extensions

I think the tie rod extensions were put in to clear the aftermarket V-8 cross member. But I am just not sure.
