Mdr 200 Night Race Pix!! Big Files - Beware!!
so - i brought my f150 out (bronco is in temporary dry dock)...and there were about 120+ vehicles in this race.
myself and a couple of other volunteers were made ROVERS - which means - we were designated specific areas of the course to 'patrol' - to keep people from cutting the course (no cheating) - to help with recovery and support - AND to act as radio relays for the more remote portions of the course.
MDR start/finish pit area
heres nicks bronco (ROVER 6) on a high speed pass!
ROVER 7 on a leak break...(thats me!)
this was my area - north of CHECK 2 and PIT C
more to come...

about 9pm - we got a call that car 1453 has had a rollover & needs assistance somewhere between PIT B and C - (that put them about 10-15 miles away from us)....so we threw everything in the back & made a bee-line for them.
now - trying to stay off the course in the dark AND with my GPS dead - is to say the least - VERY TRICKY!!
naturally we got a little a turned around but after a wild trailblazing ride across the desert - we found them to be uninjured with a busted front wheel...and a dead radio.
apparently the wheel rolled off the car - the spindle dug in & they got tossed.
and although we could only help them try to find their wheel till their chase team arrived - they seemed to appreciate the offer of an ice cold HEINY - courtesy of ROVER 7 (thats me!!)
after a bit - there was an small armada of their pals on scene to make sure they were be gonna ok...so back to the job of roving we went.
almost done!

later we discovered a TJ chase vehicle with a busted driveshaft - (help on the way for them) and a few more miles up the road was car 169 dead & in need of a TIG WELDER...(cant help there either) - but - we relayed the call to base with their status - and once again ROVER 7 to the rescue with a couple of ice cold HEINYs - which were VERY appreciated.
it was close to midnight now - still about 95 degrees and ROVER 7 had been out there for close to 12 hours (and awake for about 18)...so - getting low on fuel - with myself and my co-driver near exhaustion (4 hours of sleep - 350 miles of driving) - it was time to head back home...
i love it when my girl is DIRTY!!!
all in all - i gotta say thanks to MARILYN from MDR for the lettin' us help out - and a BIG THANKS to my co-driver HAYDEN - without you it woulda gone bad - i woulve got lost and then starved to death!!
i had a blast - nothing was broken - and no one (on my end) got hurt...i learned a lot - and next time i'll be more prepared (LOWRANCE GPS here i come!!)
i took a lot more pics (didnt want to post em all) - so - if youre looking for somebody (i shot the pits earlier AND some pre-runs from start/finish) - lemme know & i'll take a look.
hope you liked 'em
next race is SEPT 9 - and i cant wait!!
if youre interested in volunteering - send me a PM - the more the merrier!!
