Oil burning?

Just had a simple question for ya'll. I was just reading in the 4.6/5.4 forum, and came across a tread that dealt with oil burning in the 4.6L. I know that the 4.6 and 5.4 are modular engines, but is the 6.8L V10 in this catagory? And if so, has anyone had any problems with oil burning in their V10? So far I just turned 30K and do not bur any oil between changes(every 3K).

Just wondering

Morgan

Most engines will burn oil. The seal between the rings is never 100%.

I use about 1/4-1/2 qt. every 5K.

I burn anywhere from zero, to maybe a half a quart every oil change. It all depends on how hard I work her. No engine in production today is totally sealed to the point that it doesn't burn any oil. There also was some sort of dip stick discrepancy on some models. The V-10 is a fabulous engine, I've heard nothing about any abnormal oil burning from anyone here, or anywhere else, enjoy ! I burn about 1/4 quart between 3000 - 5000 miles in the V10 and my wifes expedition, w/4.6, uses about 1/2 quart.

Oil burning?

1/4 to 1/2 quart every 3000 miles...normal i think, every motor i had burned at least some, that's why they make quarts instead of gallons , should make pint bottles just like the beer in england...yup i burnt a pint in the last 3000 miles , my feeling is , if you do not burn oil.., you are burning something else, somewhere, maybe metal, oil is better to burn....Dan / ft

I an engine were so tight as to not use any oil it would quickly sieze.

A quart every few thousand miles isn't considered excessive.I don't think Ford won't give you the time of day until you are using a quart in less than 1000mi.Which,IMO,stinks.
