4.0 Vs. 4.2

whats the deal with these 2 engines??
thier rated at practically the same amount of power
why doesnt ford just use one engine instead of both?

The 4.2 was supposed to take over the 300 inline six I guess. Basically, the 4.2 was supposed to be the next "Truck Six". The 4.0 is a little smaller I think and therefor is dropped in the Rangers.

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but Ford doesn't put the 4.0's in the F150's do they??

no they dont, just exploror/ranger and mustnangs

hey whats the stock mileage on the 4.2s? im lookin into down grading from my 5.4 gas guzzling monster to a 4.2 and was wondering how much of a mpg difference there is between the 5.4 and the 4.2?

I wouldn't know, but I've heard men around these forums say they get around 20+ mpg. Not bad!

thanks man, i tried searchin around, but i couldnt find anything, all the MPG searches came back to diesel!

The 4.2 does OK on gas, I believe (like most vehicles) a lot depends on how heavy your foot is.
