Blown V10 install in 1999 Police Interceptor

Hey!

Im a newbie here. I was reffered to this site by a friend-

Im installing a 6.8 L v10 in my Crown Victoria. I dont have much money and so im on a tight budget- so everything has to be damn cheap.

http://images.cardomain.com/installs/248000-248999/248160_19_full.jpg
(me at the Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords @ Englishtown, NJ 2002)

The idea:
Find a solid platform---> ungodly fast car, big cubic inches, fuel injection, cheap, reliable, different

Solution--->Fleet Vehicle (reliable, solid)

Vehicle Type---> Crown Victoria (heavy F-150 like chassis-tough, unusual)

How do i make it fast?---> No replacement for Displacement--->Find a bigger engine..5.4 or... 6.8L!!! I went with 6.8

Faster? ---> Blower

I bought a 7600 dollar 1999 Police interceptor back in May, and I bought a 2000 v10 with low miles for 300 bucks that runs, but has a crack in the starter bracket part of the block. Im going to weld and pin that up, so it will work nicely.

The intake Runners:
http://images.cardomain.com/installs/248000-248999/248160_21_full.jpg

first i dissassembled everything.
I then took out the throttle butterflies and knife edged them, and ground the butterfly holders down and rounded them off, and polished them smooth.
I ported the throttle body and polished the inside of it to a mirror finish, nice and smooth. This was pretty hard because of that stupid circular hump on the top side. I also smoothed it out, so the middle is now much thinner and there are no sharp angles in it at all.

I took the intake runners and set them aside. I got a coat hanger, folded one end around, and wrapped cotton ***** and duct tape around one end. The other i inserted into a drill. I wrapped and tapped sandpaper to this weird looking thing and ran it through the intake runners, smoothing them out well. (like piles of aluminum dust came falling out hahah. Then, really covered in grey aluminum sanding dust i washed it all off.

As for The elbow, i ground down the two triangle ports on the top that were restricting things, and then bought 3M sandpaper that claimed to be 3 times faster cutting and 3 times longer lasting. I went to work on the inside of that bad boy and sanded all the casting smooth, then went back and kept sanding it untill it was all 2000 grit almost mirror look.

Im about to get a budget port and polish job on the heads for $200 from one of my friends that works at a performance shop. I used a dremmel and like 3 of the accessory kits to match up the intake runners and elbow and throttle body well.

The intake i painted with silver engine paint, along with the outside of the throttle body and the valve covers. I must say that i was really impressed at how much more ... high performance the v10 looks with silver valve covers... wow! First thing i did was chemical strip the grease off and then scrape off all those stickers and stuff on them. Then i stripped them again with chemicals, and sprayed them with engine paint. Looks Great! now i need to clearcoat all this, but its a little cold out... i think i should have waited till summer to start this v10 project.

The computer comes from a triton equipped F250, and the wiring harness from an Econoline Van. Im working on adapting everything to work... but the major issues i am having is the fact that the speed sensor is in the rear axle on the v10 trucks, and mine is in my 4R70W tranny. Im using this tranny because it is 300lbs LIGHTER than the 100 and the 100 wont fit in my transmission tunnel, etc. (im using a baumanattor TCS to control my 4R70W)

I will have to install a 3 cowl hood to clear the intake elbow and pipe. That is in planning right now with the body shop, also a friend of mine.

the blower? this is going to be difficult as well. The clearances needed for a blower AND a v10 in a crown vic engine compartment JUST ARE NOT there. I need to move the radiator a little to the side, and cut the radiator support bracket out to make room for the blower tube. The intercooler (3 core) is getting mounted under the front bumper cover at the bottom, and unfortunately might be prone to rock damage, etc... so i dont know what im going to do about that... but time will tell!

Well, anyway... my only engine experience is building Alchohol Racing engines under 15 hp, soo... heheh this is over my head, but im determined... btw, im also 19! hehe so this just goes to prove that not all teenagers build riced out cars!

-Sean.

(please dont flame me for not owning an F250 or 350 with a v10... i cant afford 40k!!! lol)

Yep! i am! im working in conjunction with Eric, (ATOMHART) who is doing a much more expensive N/A setup (SVT V10 GALAXIE), but whereas he is doing it refined, and I am doing it mad max style, lol.

You can fit the v10 it under the hood, just you have to work with the intake a little (grinding, ect). Im not going to... im just going to work with the hood-ie cowl hood. ( i need 3 inches of clearance )

SA is the one who did the V10 vic you saw in popular mechanics... not to say anything mean but...

1. The 100 series tranny is 300lbs heavier, and designed for towing...we dont need it in our cars, even with extra hp.

2. the 100 series tranny causes you to have to cut and reweld the driveshaft

3. the 100 series tranny causes you to rebuild the tran tunnel, and mounts and everything.

4. His speed sending unit is out in the open...i dont like the way its set up.

5. A new radiator was required in his application because he used the 100 series tranny and had to mount his engine 3 inches forward, closer to the radiator.

By keeping the 4R70W in my application you save yourself a world of trouble. I hope i can burn out my tranny at the strip-- it will give me an excuse to put in a T56 6 speed!!!

i dont know if it would really fit the transmission tunnel, etc... then i would also have to reweld the driveshaft, cut the firewall out, etc... a big PITA!

Very nice. Going to be quite the monster once you get done. I think even a stock v-10 with no mods would move that car ok given all the torque. You'll have a real drag car that looks like a sedan when
you are done.

ck out or web site www.bv10motors.com we built or own blower setup so it would fit under the hood. We have a viper 6speed but the next car we are building is going to be a auto with a trans brake. You sould be able to get the trans speed sensor to work if you wire it right also put a switch on it so you can shut it off if you want to go faster than 95 that way you can flip it off when eating a small block up.
