Flutter Fix - Part Two

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Dec-02 AT 02:01 PM (EST)]My V-10 suffers from flutter and so far I have read of two fixes: spend a fortune to change the exhaust configuration or bend the torque converter dust cover. Favoring the later (if it works), I took the dust cover off, looked it over and discovered it's not the lower surface that is vibrating against the transmission case, it's the upper lip that is vibrating against the steel plate it mates with. A little double sided foam tape on both surfaces (the kind you mount trim on the side of a vehicle with), no more flutter (or at least that noise I heard before). Might want to give it a try if the cheap fix still did not fix the problem.

I took that cheap alloy dust cover and traced it on a piece of stainless sheetmeatel, cut it out with a bandsaw and put the nice thick stainless dust cover on.It works great. No more noise.

I have been toying with idea myself. I have a spare piece of aluminum diamond plate laying around that should fit the bill. Just make sure you have a drain hole in the bottom of the cover to let out water and oil.

I just put a small notch at the bottom for draining.Aluminum diamond plate should work fine.
