cold weather operation for 6.0 turbo diesel

I'm going to be in the New England states for awhile this winter. My F250 is a Southern born, Southern raised turbo diesel. What have other owners found best for the following:

a. Cold weather fuel problems with the 6.0.

b. Need fuel additives during cold weather?

c. Cold weather cranking and what temp. to begin plugging in the block heater?

Well, it depends on where in New England.

I lived in Maine for seveal years and there's a difference between ME and CT for example.

Are you using any fuel additive now? I'm in WV and we get some snow and sub 30s temps so I use Power Service in the white bottle at each fill up. The white bottle has an anti-gel additive to help with cold starts.

As for the plugging-in question. I've seen posts where guys plug them in at freezing and I've seen guys who are way north in Canada that say the don't plug them in until it hits below zero. My temps have hit10s and 20s but I have yet to plug mine in. She starts right up. I would guess it depends on the year model you have and the milage you have on yours. Mine's an 03 with 49K on it.

My recommendation is to talk to the diesel owners in the area you'll be around. Their advice will probably be spot on.

Good Luck!

Joe

Thanks Joe. This is pretty well what I thought. I'll keep a copy of your response to make sure I don't forget the additive.
