gas mileage help-V10
I had the same problem when I bought my 2000. I averaged 10 to 11 mpg, now I'm up around 13.5 to 13.8, this is around town driving. Five recommendations: 1.) Experiment with fuel brands. My truck does better with Chevron, really dislikes Exxon. 2.) K&N air filter. This helped me by about .5 mpg. 3.)Good synthetic motor oil. I run Mobil 1 5W30. 4.) Run your tire pressure up, this is a biggie. Lots of discussion on this one. This will depend on tire type, load, weather conditions, etc. Do a search in the Super Duty Heavy Duty forum. 5.) Big dog in right seat that bites driver when he pushes right foot down to fast, or too far. . Remember these truck are Heavy ! Mine weights 6,620 pounds. They also have aerodynamic qualties of a brick!

DON'T DRIVE IT!
Seriously, tire pressure has got to be one of the bigger and more inexpensive ways to increase MPG

I think you have to not care about the mileage, even with a diesel, to drive a truck. Us diesel owners brag about 20 MPG, but that's not really that great when you think about it. After I bought a Ford Expedition a few years back everyone asked me what kind of mileage it got. My response was "I don't know, that's not why I bought it."
Your mileage with the V10 seems pretty close to the norm. There are a few things listed above that will help a little bit, but not much. The easiest thing to do is avoid hard acceleration at all costs, but is the savings worth that? (NO!!!)

Your mileage is average for in-town driving. All the stop lights and subsequent acceleration kill mileage. I have been slowly learning to drive like there is an egg under my pedal, barely touch it. It is hard to do, especially with everyone mad and passing you cause you aren't flooring it like everyone else. But I still get there the same, maybe 30 sec. to a minute later. :-)
As a side note, this truck is going to really suck to drive in a few months if gas prices spike like they are telling us.
But I knew gas was going to be an expense I'd have to live with if I wanted a V10, and I am ready to shell out the $$ if need be. Buy oil stocks!!

V10 Super Duty girlfriend/wife - "Wanna go out this weekend?"
V10 Guy - "Umm...Sure, I'll cover the gas, you get the rest!"
Try that one out for a quick face slap!!
