Getting The Dash Out Of A '97 F-150???

Ok.....apparently I haven't found the right search terms yet....so I'll just go on and ask the question. I've got a light out on my instrument cluster (no light on the right hand side), so I'm guessing I'm gonna need to get the dash out so I can work on the bugger. The question is......how in the world do I get the dash out?

BTW: This is the truck listed in my sig.

When you get it out make sure to replace every bulb, nothing worse than only replacing 1 and having another go out after you get it all back together. When mine started going they all went within a year.

ncranchero, email and PM sent.

galaxie61, I plan on it. I've had that issue before with other vehicles I've helped work on.

All Ford mechanics know that removing dashes on a Ford sucks. A million screws, and some plastic snaps. And, you have to remove a lot of **** to get at a easy spot.

The problem with changing color is the way it is designed the bulbs are clear and the color is made by the actual dash piece. So if you put say green bulbs in everything that is red turns kind of a pale blue.

I made this mistake with my air control bulbs, I bought green bulbs and now the whole thing lights up really dim.

My listing shows replaceable bulbs, as opposed to the bulb/holder combo. Is this right, you can replace just the bulbs?

well thanks galaxie...that is good to know...i guess there is no way to really change the color?...or does someone have something in mind?

if not i guess i will just replace my burnout bulb...and all the rest of my bulbs and have a nice bright shine again!

You'd be better off to change the instrument cluster "cover" for lack of a better term. Many companies make them in white and other colors, then I bet you could change the bulb color and it would look better.

The actual bulbs are what need to be replaced, I can't remember what specific model they are but they are held in with a simple reusable twist style retainer.

The model needed is a standard 194 I believe.

Check out this thread:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ent-lamps.html

Should point you in the right direction. Just need a paper clip, a 7mm socket and some patience!
