98 Explorer RemotesKeyless Entry Poor Range

Hi to all. I have a 98 Explorer with Remote keyless entry. The keypad keyless works fine the remote key fob does not. I found the module (back left forward of the jack) and when the fob is pointed at this area it works. Any distance from the truck and the fob stops working. I changed the batteries (twice) in the fob, thinking low batteries would decrease the distance. This did not help. So I am thinking there must be an antenna somewhere that is disconnected. There is no obvious antenna exiting from the module. So my question is.
1) Is there an antenna for the remote keyless entry. If so where is it and how can I trouble shoot it?
2) Any other ideas??
Thanks to all for your help.

I do not think there is an antenna. One thing that will really kill your signal is other remotes on your key chain. If there are other remotes to close to the remote that you are tying to use they will create interferance. Other than that I woul replace the remote.

Has the remote ever gotten wet? A little corrosion inside the remote will affect it's range, amongst other things.

Ok so I couldn't resist. Separated the remotes and gave it a shot. Disappointingly no change. The remote works if it is near/ pointed at the left quarter panel (the module is visable on the other side. Anybody got another idea?? Thanks again for the help.

i was having problems with my 96 explorer remote with no range I came across a how to video to boost ur remote basically if you open your remote there is a dime sized silver circle thats ur remote antenna if you solder onto it a piece of wire it boosts your signal make sure the other wire end is taped and the cover fits back on the same way (have to move the wire with bends) i gained about 20 foot from it not as good as the 50+ the video says you will get but ill take it GL =D
