Brake and Power Steering noise.

My X makes this weird whining noise when I turn the steering wheel and push on the brake pedal. I checked all the fluids and everything looks good. What could it be? It really sounds like crap.

What powers your truck? I ask because gassers and diesel have different braking systems.

Did you check the power steering fluid? If a diesel, the pump operates the brake booster.

If the fluid is okay you can try and do a fluid swap to synthetic to see if that helps. If not, you may need a new pump...or a set of earplugs.

It's a diesel so I'm thinking it's probably the booster then. I don't really know what else it could be.

When you're doing both at the same time you're putting the strain on the p/s pump not the booster. If your brakes are working fine and have a good pedal I wouldn't screw with the booster. I'd go with Monsta's recommendation and do a fluid change. Use a synthetic.

Also can you describe the sound better?? If it's like a growling, whirring sound it's the pump. Good luck.

It's more like the whirring sound and it didn't start doing it until yesterday just all of a sudden. My brakes are working fine but you still here the noise a little more when you press on the pedal.

I was checking around the power steering pump ans I found a hard line that was loose on the bottom. Would that line being loose cause that sound? I was thinking that the pump was getting air bound. I also found some fresh fluid on the underneath of the line. So I cleaned it up and will see if it still leaks. Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I think you may have found the source of your troubles. I take it you topped off the fluid?

I hope that was the problem and I did top it off but I haven't driven it yet. So we will see today. I hope that fixes it.

Well with it running take off the cap and turn the steering wheel from right full lock to left full lock a few times. Do it slowly. This will bleed the system.

Well I haven't done that yet but it is still leaking and making that noise. I think my power steering pump is starting to go out now.
