7.3L in older 6.9L Alt regulator wiring problems

I bought a 1986 f-250 diesel that a guy put a 1991 7.3L diesel into. The alt is not working correctly. I have 3 different books and none of the wiring diagrams match what I have AND ITS THE STOCK REG AND WIRE HARNESS!! Sorry for the yelling, but every diagram that I have shows the green/red wire on the "I" terminal and going to the inst cluster. My truck has the green/red on the "S" (thats the one that should go to the alt stator!) and I think it heads to the inst cluster. The "I" terminal on the regulator is BLANKED OFF FROM THE FACTORY PLUG!!! I thought about making my own plug, but why should I have too. The plug is blanked off from the factory? How does the charging light/meter work?

This is what I was thinking of doing.
1) Take the green/red wire off the "S" and move it to the "I"
2) Wire "S" on reg to "S" on alt

I just know I gonna let the smoke out!

thanks

stephen

I have to go out and look. I have a few harnesses out of trucks plus the ones in the trucks now. It will be tom. though.
