Detailing Do's N Dont's

What do you guys use to make your rides look so good?

What products do you find the best to use?

What do you think is a waste of money?

As you all know I desperately need help! lol

I think having a big high quality chamois makes a huge difference, at least with my water. I use rain-x car soap with wax, which I really like, meguiars quick detailer and wax, and mothers for the chrome. One important thing for me is to use lintless cloths.

YES

Clay bar~Meguiars NXT~Meguiars Quick Detailer~Invisible Glass~CA Duster~Microfibre Towels

NO

Dish Soap~Laundry Detergeant~Paper Towels~Silicone Based Wax
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dish soap and laundry detergeant are very harmful to paint. Paper towels are made from recycled paper and contain minute bits of metal. Silicone based waxes will strip off the clear coat. If garaged and driven as a weekend cruiser, use a clay bar and a good quality wax. Dust frequently, wash seldom. Water and metal don't mix, and water can find its way into places where drains may be clogged. Rust never sleeps. When you do wash, use a leaf blower to dry the vehicle.

actually, if you are starting all over, like i am, Dawn is a great wash, followed by clay, paint cleaner/scratch/swirl remover, then polish and two coats of wax

I've been detailing vehicles since 1957, and if you have a clear coat finish, be advised that dish soap is very harmful to the finish. Not only will it dry out the paint if not thoroughly removed, leaving a film on the paint, but will strip any wax off that is there.

Owning the vehicles I do gets me weird looks anyway. The old battleaxe that lives across the street thinks I'm nuts-she may not be too far off with that assessment!

right, stripping the wax is what i want....so i can remove the contaminants, hit it with some scratch/swirl remover, then polish, and two coats of fresh wax
