I am hoping someone can provide me with the information I need to wire in an aftermarket turn signal flasher switch to my ’46 pickup truck (converted to 12V). It says “Chieftain” on the chrome plated switch housing. It is designed to attach to a steering column by means of a hose clamp type of mounting. It has a pull-out hazard warning switch below the stalk. On the wiring pigtail there are SEVEN colored wires:
BROWN
BLACK
RED
ORANGE
YELLOW
GREEN
And
BLUE
I need to know which wires go where. The only one I am sure of is the BLUE one which goes to the indicator bulb in the switch (thru a 3-prong flasher unit), assuming one does not have dash mounted indicator lights.

On another vehicle I have a “Grote” brand switch but that one has NINE wires so I can’t use the wiring diagram for it.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. I tried looking on the web but my search was futile.

Do you have an ohm meter? If so, I think I have a 7 wire somewhere, and can run a few checks to tell you how to get it set up...I did a SignalStat several years ago by testing continuity.

 

Yes, Mike , I have an ohmeter. Give it a shot. l also made a circuit panel on a piece of plywood that has front and rear turn lights, a brake light switch and a flasher unit mounted to it so I can bench test it all. Thanks.

 

I'll dig it out tomorrow and do some testing...heck, might even have the same color of wires

 

Well heck...I can't find the darned thing yet....and if you saw may shop you'd know why
