5.4L poor gas milage
I was just wondering if anyone out there knew how to get a little better gas milage out of the 5.4L V8. I have a 2002 f150 with 3000 miles on it. I have been getting 11-12 mpg at the best. Any help would be great. Also I was curious if adding a supercharger will void my factory warranty. Thanks for any info

Where are you driving that you only get that 11-12mpg? When I drive my 5.4L 2WD, I get about 15 with a heavy foot. That is strictly miles/gal's. But when I do drive it I commute into North Dallas about 40 miles. On a long trip to Longview(2 1/2 hrs by highway) I averaged 17.4mpg at 65mph...

12MPG seems a little low, but keep in mind there are only 3000 miles on the truck. You didn't mention if the truck is 4 wheel drive or not. My '98 5.4 4x4 EB Expedition with appx. 50,000 miles gets around 12.6 MPG on a 70% city/30% hwy mix. On a recent 600 miles trip I averaged 16.7 on the hwy only.

>well, i dont feel so bad now. my 02 super duty is
>getting round 12.5-13.5 mpg with a 6 sp 4x4 and 4:10 gears.
I wouldn't feel bad about that at all.. took a road trip a few weeks ago and was excited as all hell when I got back and figured I got 13.2 mpg!
that's with an '00 SD XLT CC 4x4 (5spd w/ 4.10's)

I just picked my truck up last Thursday. I drove it on a trip this weekend. I filled it twice and ran it down to about 1/8th tank each time before refilling. I checked the mileage both times, and the first time I checked the numbers I was somewhat skeptical that I had missed a "cipher" somewhere.
But both times it came up at 17.2mpg. This was all interstate, with speeds that varied from 50-75mph all the way.
This is with (now) 980 miles on the truck.
So far, I have to say I am pleased. This is better than I had expected.

I wonder how much of this is dependent on the formulation of unleaded in each area, or the emissions equipment on the vehicles? They make it sound like the Dallas/Fort Worth area has a different formula that say the Amarillo area, or the Houston area. I know the formaulation varies for elevation and temperature from one area of the country to another. IE: New York compared to Florida. Just an idea...
