hey f350-6 if you are wondering about the overdrive gearvendors unit on the 7.3's go to the 1994.5-1997 powerstroke forums and ask to talk to rubberduck about his. he is absolutely in love with it, those long shifts that you are talking about this unit sticks another shift in there so you dont loose that momentum, and then there is the double overdrive which you know, with 4:10's i know he gets decent mileage on his dually.
also on the 6.4's when i test drove the 6spd i didnt really notice a huge rpm drop when shifting, and like said before the throws are oustandingly short on those trucks. when i first took off in the truck i had to make sure that i was actually going into gear because they are so short compared to the 7.3's.
hope this helps you out in some sort of way.

For some reason it seems Ford is slowly getting away from the stick jockey crowd. They're offering less options for the manual trannys and no reasons for the limitations. Not to mention no major upgrades to the tranny for the last several years.
(Sorry is I'm making no sence, just got back from the bar, long night and an hour drive back. Have I said that the 6-speed is easy as hell to drive. )

I don't know why they just don't go ahead and make the base model come with an automatic and offer the 6-speed as an upgrade item for more money. Maybe if we were paying extra for a stick shift the would feel more compelled to offer us options.

Mine are manual locking hubs. If you have the ground shift lever the front hubs are always manual on Fords. I had the option to get auto locking hubs with the shift on the fly switch, but I decided not to because my last 2 trucks had auto locking hubs, and the lockers on both trucks went out. To me it's just less stuff to break.

A lariet with 6 speed and manual 4X4! Just exactly what I have been looking for. I knew I would probably have to special order it, but I can not even find a 6 speed to test drive. No dealership I have checked in the area has even one. I am gonna keep looking and drive one before I order one.
Also my truck will have a gearvendors unit. I have wanted one for a long time. I just can not justify spending that kind of money on my current truck with over 200K miles. I can justify it easily on this new one.
