Wax Question

I bought my cousins Red 2003 PSD. He removed his companys decals from the truck but you can still see the outilne. Can the outline be removed through just waxing and what wax should I be using. Thanks

It's unlikely, but start with a clay bar, then progress to a polish. I would also suggest a sealer/glazer and a good wax. I use mothers, so that would be my suggestion, Mother's clay bar, Reflections Polish, Phase 1 cleaner, Phase sealer and glazer and then phase 3 wax.

The color differential is probably just oxidation and a little fade. The clay bar and polish should clear up the oxidation. Hopefully glazing it will blend the color back closer.

I removed pinstriping that is 3 years old from my wifes car and it had left glue on the paint. I tried polish and it did nothing. Then I went and got goof off and tried it to a small section while the paint was cool (not in direct sunlight). When I saw it wouldn't harm the paint I used on the rest of the glue it took it off real easy I washed the car right after so the chemicals wouldn't soak into the paint.

For old glue, I stick to WD40 and rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl). They both will cause to glue to release and shouldn't harm the paint. It even works on 3m molding tape.

I dont have any residual glue from the decal just an outline from the weathered and covered paint. I am going to clay bar, paint cleaner, polish then wax the whole truck. When using the clay bar do I go in straight lines? Thanks for all the suggestions.

It doesn't make any difference in what direction a clay bar is used.

A clay bar MUST be used with a lubricant. Mothers or Meguiars qwik detail works fine. If you buy a clay bar kit, it will come with the lubricant. Do NOT use a clay bar on hot metal, clay streaks will result. They aren't harmful, but can be a PITA to remove. Even if the metal is cool, you need to keep the area wet with lubricant. You don't need to rub hard = go easy, let the bar glide along the surface.

You will be amazed on how smooth the finish is after you use the bar. Car washes, most waxes and polishes, will not remove most of the pollution (fall out). Get another clay bar, use it on glass...use Windex or Invisible Glass for a lubricant.

I clay bared and paint cleanered the whole truck and it already looks good. I have to look very hard to see the lettering. The clay bar is definately worth doing

Decals after years on the paint and then taken off will leave ghosting. Clear coated paint is the worse to remove but on single stage paint you can make better with glaze.

I finished waxing my truck and I cant believe the difference. I clay bared, paint cleanered, polished and waxed and it looks like new and it got rid of the "ghosting" from the decals. Thanks for the help.
