"shift solenoid D"

i own a 04 crew cab short box 6.0L diesel burner. its equipt with the 5R110W/TorqShift tranny. i bought it used 2yrs ago with 66thuo K. it now has 155thuo K. i bought it thru a dealership, it came with 4inch lift (installed by dealer by previous owner.) also came with the previous owners chip. a van akkens smart box. before ppl get all ancy about the chip, ford has voided my warrenty( its a BIG LONG story, summin up to "sales and Service are 2 different departments"). i have had headgasket trouble and they have been replaced (search thru fourms ull find my posts.) the best mod IVE done is guages, with manuel guages my truck boosts no higher on "100hp" tune or stock tune. i love the truck, and any chance i get to tow sumpin i jump to it. this past weekned i was pullin a older dodge car on my car hauler. the truck seemd to be havin troubles with the shift from 3-4 gear. it would rev up a bit, sum times bang hard when it did shift. sunday i pulled a medum sized boat 1.25hrs to go fishin, the way up was great, didnt miss a beat, but on the way home i didnt think we were goin to make it. when it did finaly grab 3rd or 4th gear the "tow/haul" light flashed half way home. i pulled over shut the truck down, fired it back up. no more tow haul flash, and it would shift thru all the gears like new again.

im currently workin 2wards being a apperntiship mechainc. tonite after work the boss scaned the truck, the code or trouble was "shift solenoid D". it is time for a tranny flush. im wondering how much of a job it would be to change that solenoid b 4 i flushed the tranny. i searchd thru forums and see that solenoids are a commin issue, but no how to's on fixing them. no "take it to a dealer " replys. its off warrenty, and if im goin to do that i might as well not get into mechanics as a career. replys from the great ford mechs are greatly appreciated.
thanks, dave.
