Programmer Just For Changing Tire Size and Speedo Calibration?

Does anyone know if there is a programmer out there that just adjusts the speedometer when you upgrade to bigger tires? I know the dealer can do up to 35" and a Truespeed will do more than that, but I'm just looking at other options. I know that Superchips or some company like that makes a Tirepaq, but that won't work for my truck.

If your going to spend a couple of hundred dollars, why not go ahead and get a good tune too? They don't have to give you the utmost performance, there are economy tunes and mid level tunes available.

I was one of the smart guys(sarcasm) who bought a bullydog chip when they first started coming out. It works fine but I have just a four stage switch, no other options on the thing (code reader, gauges, etc.) and procomp was the first company I found that gives you a code reader and tire recalibrator at a pretty cheap price. Nothing better than being the first guy to say I did it wrong.

Thanks guys. I would tune it as well, but I still have my truck under warranty. My dealer has been great and said that if I lift it, they will still warranty every part that is not supplied by the lift. The said they would void it if tuned. I'm just looking at the cost difference in a 4.5" lift with 35s and a 6" lift with 37s. I'll check out the Pro Comp.

From what I read, the Pro Comp Programmer only goes up to 34" tires.

As far as I know none of the programmers can adjust for tires bigger than 35". The programmers are changing the same number in the PCM that the dealer does if you have them do it. The PCM will not recognize a revolutions per mile number smaller than 600. If you go less than 600 rev/mile you have to get a Superlift Tru speed, or something similar.

Thanks Beerstalker. I have seen of the programmers for the diesels that claim to go toa 40" tire. I forget the brand off hand, but it might have been Superchips or something like that. Now do I believe them? Not really.

Cdr, my guess is they may be able to adjust to a 40" tire on some trucks, and just don't bother to mention that they can't do it on Fords. I'm not 100% certain of this though.

That's what I was thinking, but the programmer was specific to 6.0L diesels. Who knows. I'm probably just going to stick with the 35s anyways. I just can't make up my mind.

I used the Superlift TruSpeed. It worked like a charm. It has two settings, so I use it for my 37" BFG and my 35" Boggers. When I used it to correct the speedo, it fixed the shift points in the trans and made the truck run like a top again. I will be posting pics of it in my gallery.

If I get 37s, that will probably be the way I'll go. I just don't like splicing into wires and such on my truck.

I recall on my 2001 that there is a Pos/Neg wire under the dash, and a speed sensor wire that you splice into that runs along the left front fender under the hood. I sent you a PM.http://www.eurekaboy.com/f250/truspeed.htm

I would contact the manuf. of certain programmers your looking at and ask them if it adjusts for 37's. Get the revs per mile from the tire manuf. and select it in the programmer and it adjusts, the speedo and trans. I would look at the Diablo for your 01'.

The nice think about the programmer is all the other adjustable parameters as well as reading/clearing dtcs, datalogging and being able to download custom dyno tunes. Just more options available with the prog, thats the way I went.

I wouldn't be worried about warrenty problems with a tuner on your 6.8l. My truck is under warrenty too, but your not adding enough power or going too wild with the settings to hurt anything on the truck with a gasser. You don't even have to load a tune if you don't want to, just adjust what you feel comfortable with.
