DP and tow mileage

well hello all from mission rv park in El Paso, TX. Just finished my 987mi trip from home and I love my DP......it pulls strong especially at highway speed no struggle whatsoever, as a matter of fact my truck wants go faster than I want to! Anyway I am getting a solid 10mpg on the 60 tow, towing 8200lbs. pleased so far cuz last summer I went to Lake Tahoe and only got 8.2mpg with that hypertech ! So what I want to know is what you guys that are towing around the same weight are getting mpg wise?

I was towing with en edge 80 hp setting, with a jd 250 skid loader, trailer, and grossed 20-21k IIRC, (it was between those two, i did hit a scale) I averaged 9-10 on that trip, but i was pushing it hard, to see what it could do, watch egts, etc (had just gotten the programmer) It really impressed me what these things can do, and im sure if i didnt attack hills i would have done better on fuel, but another thing to consider, is im not pulling a huge not so aerodynamic rv, just a skid loader. Not that its more aerodynamic, its just smaller.

And i have to say, it was hilarious to watch my one buddy, in his 1980something toyota starlet, NOT beable to come up the hills as fast as me. He was in an empty car!! haha man did i poke fun at him!

I average 10.5 towing my travel trailer- No tuner yet. Just wondering if its worth the $$$. I still have to get my 4" exhaust. How are your egt's on long grades while towing? Thanks, Bill

Longest grades I ran into were less then a mile, so im not sure im a good one for that, plus i was pretty much maxed out on weight, and seeing how well it would go, so i ran it to 1200ish and kept it there. If you already have the exhaust, and i see you have gauges, so get a tuner, you will never regret it. Virtually no change in mpg, as long as you drive responcibly, but alot more power, and better driveability. I havent used a DP tuner yet, but someday i will, but i really have no complaints about the edge evo im still borrowing

I haven't filled up yet, but my mileage for the first tank of an 800mi trip or so was 8.92 towing the beast around. This was on the 60Tow setting, once I fill up, I will post an overall mileage for the trip.

My trailer & woods truck weigh roughly 5500lb (so not very heavy in comparison) also add in another 1000lbs in fire wood, camping gear & support stuff for the off-roading & I got 15.8, going down 75 from Cinci to Nashville. Runnin 80econo tune.

I just got back from Massachusetts, 3400 miles round trip and I averaged between 11-12 the whole way pulling my 8000lb TT. I was going between 70-75 mph most of the way with the cruise on.

I dont think there is any issue with using an 80e for towing, you just have to watch your gauges a little closer on grades, as you have more ability to put more fuel to the motor then with a 40tow.

Just went on a 6300 mile trip from Texas to Pennsylvania south to South Carolina and back to Texas. Ran cruise and 70-75 mph 95% of the time and averaged 13.2. This was figured from the pump. But my overhead display aveaged 13.8. So pretty close. I have a Superchip Programer on 60hp. Traler is 29 ft 6700gvw. I have a 32ft gooseneck 4 horse trailer with living quarters wit 4 horses will weigh 21000. On a trip from Ft Worth to Pheonix AZ and back I averaged 10.8 at speeds from 75-95 all the way. Very pleased.

I think if I get stock tires and lower back to stock I would get those missing 2mpg that everyone is getting. But then hey some trade offs are worth it!

So I filled up my tank today to get an overall mileage from this last trip. Pulling my barn door house at about 65mph there and back I averaged out at 8.3mpg!
